Chelsea v Watford Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
May 01, 2019
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Chelsea are looking for a big win in their battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League as they welcome Watford to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Hornets have had a solid season, but can they cause an upset this weekend?
Chelsea have won four of the last five meetings between the teams, including a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road earlier this season. Watford beat the Blues 4-1 last term, which came after Chelsea had won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Rudiger’s season is over after a knee injury he picked up last weekend required surgery. Callum Hudson-Odoi will also play no further part in Chelsea’s campaign because of an Achilles injury, while Ethan Ampadu misses out. Willian should be fit though after he was on the receiving end of a shocking tackle from Marcos Rojo at Old Trafford last weekend.
Javi Gracia has to decide whether to bring Troy Deeney back into the starting line-up with the striker free to return from suspension. Andre Gray and Gerard Deulofeu have both been in good form, and could continue as Watford’s front two. Tom Cleverley could also return to action, but Sebastian Prodl and Domingos Quina are injured.
Chelsea v Watford Preview and Predictions
Chelsea’s preparations for this crucial game are hampered by Thursday’s Europa League exertions against Eintracht Frankfurt, but the Blues have a strong record against Watford despite the heavy defeat last season. The Hornets are gearing up for their appearance in the FA Cup final, and a good result would be huge for their confidence ahead of facing Manchester City.
Fourth-placed Chelsea have a two point lead over Arsenal in fifth, with a trip to Leicester City coming up on the final day of the season. They need to win this game, but have failed to take the three points from any of their last three Premier League fixtures.
However, Sunday’s draw at Manchester United kept the Old Trafford club at arm’s length. Chelsea are favourites to consolidate that with a victory here, with the home win priced at 4/9 in the betting. Watford meanwhile are available at 15/2.
The Hornets have to win this game if they’re going to have any chance of finishing seventh. That looks to be gone now though after two home games against Southampton and Wolves produced just a single point. Watford can qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup, and they’re 4/1 to prepare for that huge occasion with a draw on Sunday.
Over 4.5 goals at 19/5
The last five meetings between these sides have produced 24 goals at an average of 4.8 per game, so this bet could be tempting.
Chelsea to win and BTTS at 19/10
Both teams have seen the back of the net ripple in each of those last five meetings, but Chelsea are the favourites to take the three points this weekend.
