Chelsea v West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 05, 2018
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Chelsea look to bounce-back from a devastating 3-1 loss to Tottenham last week, as they face West Ham in the Premier League. The Hammers had their own crisis to recover from at the weekend, and they did so in fine style, impressing in a win over Southampton.
West Ham came out on top when the two sides met for the reverse fixture. Marko Arnautovic scored the only goal of the game, in the 6th minute, which David Moyes' side resolutely held on to for the remainder of the fixture with Chelsea bossing 70% of possession and having 19 shots.
David Luiz is still out for the hosts, with the defender likely to miss the next three weeks with a knee injury. Ross Barkley is also unlikely to make the squad, but is well on the way to recovery having played in a development match at the weekend. In good news for the Blues, Thibaut Cortois should be fit to start, having missed last week's loss.
Miachel Antonio has been rules out for the remainder of the season in a blow for David Moyes side, although Andy Carroll is rapidly approaching a return. Manuel Lanzini missed the last game, having picked up a minor injury during the international break, with Joao Mario excelling in his absence. James Collins also missed that match, but should be fit to start against the Premier League reigning champions.
Chelsea v West Ham Preview and Predictions
Having lost to Tottenham at the weekend, Chelsea have failed eight points behind in the race for Champions League football. Although they are still in the FA Cup, the Blues will consider this season a failure if they fail to get into Europe's premier competition, as it may damage their recruitment process over the summer.
The only positive from Sunday's game was Alvaro's Morata goal, with the Spanish forward having struggled with confidence for the past few months. Antonio Conte will doubtless start his summer signing again this weekend, in the hope that Morata can rediscover his goal-scoring form and justify his excessive price-tag.
However, David Moyes' side looked far from the disorganised, goal-leaking side that they have been in their last game. Their 3-0 win over Southampton featured a brace from Arnautovic, and a maiden Premier League goal from Joao Mario, which will have provided a vital mental boost for the Hammers. If they can carry this same approach into the match against Chelsea, Conte's side face a tough task.
Willian to score anytime at 7/2
The Brazilian has been Chelsea's best player in the last few months and offers a real attacking threat.
Chelsea to win 2-1 at 8/1
This match-up has produced a 2-1 scoreline in four of the last six games. Will lightning strike a fifth time?
