Chelsea v Wolves Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 05, 2019
Stamford Bridge - Premier League
Chelsea host Wolves at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this weekend, having lost to the promoted side once already this season. Nuno Santo's side are in fantastic form and have lost just one of the last ten, although that was just two weeks ago, to struggling Huddersfield.
Goals from Diogo Jota and Raul Jiminez helped Wolves to what was, at the time, a shock defeat over Chelsea. The Blues scored first through Ruben Loftus-Cheek but failed to convert a host of chances on the day.
Chelsea have a clean bill of health going into this weekend, with Maurizio Sarri likely to make a number of rotations from his mid-week starting XI.
Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho surprisingly missed Wolves win over Cardiff, and the latter is expected to return this weekend. Romaine Saiss performed well in central midfield and will hope to start yet again, but Ryan Bennet and Diogo Jota may be forced to sit out through injury.
Chelsea v Wolves Predictions and Previews
Wolves fans went into this season with a sense of optimism, but even they couldn't have predicted the fantastic form their team is current through. Wolves have lost just three games in 2019, and are currently sitting in seventh in the league, just one point behind weekend hosts Chelsea.
Following an impressive start to the season, the Blues form took a major dip for the winter months, and is only recently showing signs of improvement. A solid Carabao Cup final against Manchester City was followed up by an impressive win over rivals Tottenham and Fulham, with the Blues back to showing form that may concern their rivals.
Coach Maurizio Sarri, criticised for his stubbornness, has revealed that he has allowed his side to defend a deeper line, which should prove useful against the pace of Adama Traore, who is 15/2 to score. Another change, the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain, has finally given Chelsea a prolific goalscorer, with the Argentine looking sharper by the week.
This season Wolves have performed their role as giant killers well, taking points off all the top sides, using Santo's particular blend of defensive solidity and aggressive, fast-paced breaks. This is precisely the tactic that has hurt Sarri's team in recent weeks, with a lack of pace, particularly on the left, and a slow-build up play, making Wolves far from the ideal opponents.
Although the home side may be favourites going into the weekend, the visitors should certainly not be underestimated.
Eden Hazard to score anytime at 13/10
Chelsea's star man has lost his goal-scoring momentum of late, but is still a constant danger.
Both teams to score at 10/11
Higuain and Hazard have the quality to unlock Wolves' defence, but the Blues are far from invulnerable themselves.
