Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Predictions and Betting Tips
March 28, 2017
Saturday April 1 – Stamford Bridge – Premier League
Unbeaten in their last 11 games across all competitions, Chelsea should make light work of Sam Allardyce’s struggling Palace. With the league title all but confirmed, Willian and Michy Batshuayi could be handed rare starts.
Crystal Palace have only ever won once at Stamford Bridge, a 2-1 victory in August 2015. Since both sides have met twice, Chelsea winning both to nil. With 17 wins and nine draws from 30 games against Saturdays opponents, the odds are firmly stacked in Antonio Conte’s favour.
When Conte finds a winning system he rarely changes it. Such philosophy seen him win three consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus, and it would take a brave man to bet against him doing the same with Chelsea. Eden Hazard picked up a knock while on international duty with Belgium and is expected to miss the next two weeks, while Diego Costa will need to pass late fitness tests to feature, paving the way for Willian and Batshuayi.
Long term absentee Steve Mandanda is nearing full fitness, but remains unlikely to feature this weekend. The former Marseille goalkeeper has had few chances to make his mark in the Premier League due to persistent injury troubles, but it isn’t all doom and gloom for the Eagles as Patrick Van Aanholt has recovered from an ankle injury and is back in full fitness, while Loic Remy could also play for the first time since February.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Preview and Predictions
Unbeaten in their last 11 and on a current win streak stretching four games, Chelsea enter the game as heavy favourites, and their odds echo this, as their victory is priced at 3/10, and a draw is at 5/1. Crystal Palace offer great vale at 13/1, but the risk is ultimately greater than the reward. The deep lying defensive system many of the Premier League’s bottom half utilise has been known to cause Chelsea problems, but no more than they can handle, with Burnley being the only traditional small club to take a point from Conte’s men this season.
Michy Batshuayi can be found at odds of 7/2 to open the scoring, which could prove profitable considering the Belgian will be out to impress. Crystal Palace seem to be distancing themselves from relegation with each passing week, and have now won their last three consecutive games, but performances have not been convincing, while each victory was obtained against a fellow struggler.
Star forward Christian Benteke can be found at 10/1 to be the first goal scorer, but given Chelsea’s strong defensive record, it is unlikely the away side will find the net at all.
Pedro to score any time at 8/5
The former Barcelona winger could be without usual partner Diego Costa, but that means he will be able to drift into the centre, where he tends to do the most damage.
Chelsea to win by two goals at 3/1
Chelsea may find it tough to break down deep defences, but Palace will likely be so deep there will be no room for counter attacks. Conte’s men tend to score more against bigger opposition, so a two goal margin seems most likel
