Chicago Fire v Atlanta United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
June 06, 2017
Sunday 11 June – Toyota Park, Illinois – Major League Soccer
High flying Chicago host mid table Atlanta United on Sunday night, as the home side continue to chase down league leaders Toronto FC.
Atlanta beat Chicago earlier in the MLS season, eventually running out as 4-0 winners after visitors Chicago were reduced to 10 men, in Atlanta’s first ever game as an MLS side.
Chicago are without long term absentee John Goossens, who is continuing his recovery from a thigh injury. They are also without fellow midfielder Dax McCarty, who is away on international duty, and will not be available in time for Sunday’s game.
Visitors Atlanta are without striker Jacob Peterson, who is still sidelined with a calf injury. However the major concern for visiting boss Gerardo Martino is over forward Josef Martinez, who faces a late fitness test on a thigh injury.
The Venezuelan, who only signed for Atlanta from Torino in February has been a real hit so far in the MLS, and his goal threat will be needed against a strong Chicago team.
Chicago Fire v Atlanta United Preview and Predictions
Despite beating Chicago earlier this season, the two sides fortunes have gone in opposite directions since.
Former Barcelona boss Martino has seen his side slip down the MLS table, with a run of one win in seven MLS games following that victory.
However they have stabilised in recent weeks, with back-to-back wins over Houston F.C. and New York City, before a defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Chicago.
Chicago’s form is far more consistent, unbeaten in their last seven MLS games, and second in the table. They have also been very impressive defensively in that run of games, conceding just twice along the way.
Chicago look well placed to win this comfortably, with the hosts priced at 16/19 to pick up all three points. Given their defensive solidity of late, they also should not experience too much threat from Atlanta’s forward line, and they are 5/2 to win to nil.
Chicago Fire to win 2-0 at 9/1
Hosts Chicago are in impressive form and up against a limited Atlanta side they should face few barriers to securing another win in the title chasing campaign.
Nemanja Nikolic to score anytime at 10/11
Striker Nikolic is the leading goal scorer in the MLS this season, with 11 goals so far. The former Dinamo Minsk player is on fire recently, with seven goals in his last seven MLS games.
