Crystal Palace v Arsenal Predictions and Betting Tips
April 06, 2017
Monday 8 April – Selhurst Park – Premier League
Crystal Palace welcome Arsenal to Selhurst Park on Monday evening, as Sam Allardyce’s side continue their battle for Premier League survival. Arsene Wenger has a different kind of fight on his hands, with civil war threatening to engulf the Gunners. Despite this, the visitors will start the game in South London as odds-on favourites.
Crystal Palace have only ever beaten Arsenal twice before, with their last win back in October 1994. This was also the last time the Eagles managed to score more than one goal against the Gunners. Arsenal have won nine of the 12 games since, including a 2-0 win at the Emirates earlier this season.
After shipping three goals against Southampton in midweek, Allardyce still has injury concerns in defence. Scott Dann, James Tomkins and Patrick van Aanholt are all expected to miss out, leaving the impressive Mamadou Sakho in charge of things at the back. Christian Benteke will lead the line for the hosts, but Loic Remy should be back in contention for the bench.
Wenger has his own defensive problems as Laurent Koscielny looks set for a few weeks out with an Achilles injury. However, club captain Per Mertesacker could return to the starting lineup after making the bench against West Ham. Olivier Giroud didn’t celebrate his delicious goal against West Ham, but might start against Palace after scoring three in his last four games against the Eagles.
Crystal Palace v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
Although not necessarily the fiercest of rivalries, this is a huge London derby for both Crystal Palace and Arsenal. The hosts are locked in a relegation battle as they bid to stay in the Premier League, while the visitors are after a top four finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
The Eagles saw their run of four consecutive wins end at Southampton, a game that wasn’t without its controversy. The Saints equaliser just before half time looked like a certain foul by Steven Davis on Wilfried Zaha, while Palace looked liked getting at least a draw until the final minutes of the game. They’re 15/4 to return to winning ways against Arsenal, which would be a massive three points for the club.
The beleaguered Gunners meanwhile have something to build on after twice coming from behind against Manchester City to claim a draw, and a comfortable 3-0 win over West Ham at the Emirates. The race for the top four is wide open as both Manchester clubs and Liverpool keep dropping points. You can back Arsenal to continue their push at 5/6 for the win, while the draw’s at 3/1. With so much at stake, the betting’s on this being an exciting one.
Arsenal to win 2-1 at 8/1
Arsenal have scored two goals against Palace in six of the last seven meetings. The Eagles have scored one goal in four of the last five. Does that make this bet a no-brainer?
Crystal Palace to score 2+ goals at 19/10
Back the hosts to do what they haven’t managed to do against Arsenal in the Wenger era. If you think Benteke and co. will go wild and bag three or more, it’s 13/2.
