Crystal Palace v Brighton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 05, 2019
Selhurst Park - Premier League
Two teams separated by only three points come together this weekend, as Crystal Palace host Brighton on Saturday lunchtime. The M23 derby always has the potential for fireworks, especially with Premier League survival at stake.
The last three meetings between the sides have ended in home wins, including an FA Cup victory for Brighton last season. Palace beat the Seagulls 3-2 at Selhurst Park last April, with all five goals coming in the first half.
Roy Hodgson will be without defender Mamadou Sakho, who’s expected to miss the remainder of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery. Apart from that, out-of-favour Pape Souare is the only other absentee for the home team.
Visiting manager Chris Hughton has two players who are definitely out of this game, Jason Steele and Leon Balogun. However, Pascal Gross could make a return to action, with the German currently rated at 50/50 for the weekend.
Crystal Palace v Brighton Preview and Predictions
Victory for Brighton on Saturday would see them draw level with their hosts on 33 points, while Crystal Palace can stop looking over their shoulders if they take the win. Both teams won last weekend, and will be looking to continue their momentum here.
Palace recovered from their first defeat in seven at the hands of Manchester United to record an impressive 3-1 win away at an in-form Burnley on Saturday. With their striking options finally at full strength, the Eagles are showing the attacking threat that had deserted them earlier in the campaign.
That helps Roy Hodgson’s side start as favourites in the betting, priced at 9/10. Brighton meanwhile are 4/1, after they beat Palace 3-1 earlier this season. The Seagulls needed to stick at it in their home game against bottom club Huddersfield at the weekend, finally prevailing 1-0 to pick up three valuable points, and their first Premier League victory of 2019.
Brighton have been poor on the road recently, losing five of their last six away from home. With that in mind, as well as their poor form since the turn of the year and the fact they have a game in hand on all of the other teams in the bottom half of the table, a draw would be a solid result for the visitors. It’s available at 5/2.
Palace to win and BTTS at 7/2
This bet would’ve paid out in each of the last three editions of the M23 derby, and it could do again with the home team in solid form right now.
Wilfried Zaha to score first at 11/2
The Ivorian winger has netted five goals in his last five games, putting his scoring troubles behind him in emphatic style.
