Crystal Palace v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 11, 2017
Selhurst Park - Premier League
Things just refuse to get any easier for Crystal Palace, as champions Chelsea visit Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday. There’s pressure on Antonio Conte’s team too after a disappointing performance before the international break.
After an early Cesc Fabregas goal, Palace came back to beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the last meeting between the two teams. The Blues were chasing the title back in April, so it was a seriously impressive result, and one they also achieved in their previous game at the Bridge. The Blues have won their last three visits to Selhurst Park though, conceding just a single goal.
The two goalscorers for Palace in that last win over Chelsea, Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke, both miss this one through injury. Zaha’s back in training after a knee injury, but Benteke’s likely to miss another month with a ligament problem. Connor Wickham’s also injured and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s ineligible, adding to the hosts’ attacking woes.
Despite pulling out of the Spain squad for their recent internationals due to a hamstring problem, Alvaro Morata’s hopeful of being fit for this London derby. N’Golo Kante also injured his hamstring while playing for France, with the dynamic midfielder a big loss for the visitors.
Crystal Palace v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
We wait to see whether Roy Hodgson’s been able to bring any improvements to Crystal Palace during the international break. If the Eagles are going to avoid relegation, they need to start picking up points sooner rather than later, but this is going to be a tough ask against the reigning champions.
Still without a point or even a goal, Palace’s lack of attacking options is alarming. As Loftus-Cheek’s not available against his parent club, Bakary Sako or Freddie Ladapo will lead the line. With just two Premier League goals between them in their careers, there’s not much hope for Palace going into this one. The hosts start as massive underdogs with the bookmakers, priced as long as 9/1 in the betting.
After recovering well from their opening day loss at home to Burnley, Chelsea were brought back down to earth again in their last outing. Despite only losing 1-0, they were totally outplayed by Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. The game was doubly disappointing as it came hot on the heels of their fantastic result at Atletico Madrid.
With Eden Hazard heading towards top form after bagging twice for Belgium on Tuesday, the visitors go into this one as 4/9 favourites. The draw’s available at 4/1.
Chelsea to win to nil at 5/4
Improve your odds on a fourth consecutive win for the Blues at Selhurst Park by betting on Palace to continue their dismal run of form in front of goal.
Hazard to score in Chelsea win at 3/2
Another way to get more value out of an away win’s to back Hazard to net his first Premier League goal of the season.
