Crystal Palace v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 28, 2017
Selhurst Park - Premier League
Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace host Premier League leaders Manchester City on New Year's Eve, and they will be looking to pull off a shock result.
Pep Guardiola's City side hammered Crystal Palace 5-0 early this season, as The Eagles struggled under the tenure of Frank De Boer at the start of 2017-18, and their previous record against City is not much better, losing 5-0 and 2-1 in the Premier League last season.
Palace's last win over Manchester City came back in 2015, via a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace are boosted by the return to fitness of defender Joel Ward, however fellow defender Mamadou Sakho and Damien Delaney are both still sidelined through injury.
Striker Connor Wickham is back in light training following a long lay off, but he is still some way from full fitness.
City can call on England international John Stones, who has returned from a hamstring injury, but full back Benjamin Mendy and young midfielder Phil Foden are both still out of action.
Crystal Palace v Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Palace will be hopeful of keeping Manchester City on a leash in this game, despite the difficulty of that task. The Eagles have improved since Hodgson's arrival, losing just one of their last nine Premier League games, and making a real battle for the race against the drop.
However City just look too strong for them, and the rest of the Premier League this season, unbeaten since the start, they will not be in the mood to extend any festive favours to Palace.
Guardiola's charges to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table, and pick up an away win is priced at 2/7.
City have also been in fantastic goal scoring form this season, only failing to score in a match once in 2017-18, and they should hit the back of the net a few times against Palace - an over 2.5 goals bet is priced at 2/5.
Manchester City to win 3-1 at 11/1
City's attacking talents of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling show no signs of slowing down as they move into the new year, and they should make short work of Hodgson's improving Palace.
Sergio Aguero to score first at 12/5
Argentine international Aguero is still the main man at City, despite speculation surrounding his future at the club. With 12 goals in the Premier League so far this season his joint top scorer in the league for City - with Sterling - and four goals in his last four games.
