Crystal Palace v Stoke City, Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
November 21, 2017
Selhurst Park - Premier League
Desperate Crystal Palace need a win but Stoke are hitting form and in this clash of former England and Wales managers back Mark Hughes to come out on top.
Overall Palace have won 26 of the clubs’ 58 meetings with Stoke coming out on top 19 times and the rest drawn.
At Selhurst Park Stoke have lost three times in the last two seasons including a cup visit. Last time there the Potters wobbled to the tune of 4-1.
Stoke are without goalkeeper Jack Butland who broke a finger on international duty and lost his ever present record at Brighton on Monday. They do have strength in depth though with last season’s Player of the Year Lee Grant to deputise.
Stoke’s upturn in form comes on the back of a switch to a three man back line with Ryan Shawcross the focal point.
Having hit a hat-trick for the Under 23s earlier this week Sullay Kaikai has done all he can to force his way into Roy Hodgson’s thinking while the Palace manager also has Bakery Sako in the reckoning after playing 76 minutes for the second string.
Crystal Palace v Stoke City Preview and Predictions
Crystal Palace are 6/5 to win at home with visitors Stoke rated at 29/10 to win. Odds on the draw are 12/5.
Any new manager bounce Palace had hoped for with the appointment of Roy Hodgson looks to have evaporated. A home draw with struggling Everton last week was just the second point Palace have gathered in their last five games and with just five points all season The Eagles have landed and can’t take off again.
Stoke though are slowly climbing. Monday’s 2-2 draw at Brighton meant they have taken as many points in their last three games as Palace have managed all season. Mark Hughes’ men have drawn their last two games 2-2 following an impressive 1-0 win at Watford.
Xherdan Shaqiri is in fine form, impressing again at Brighton on Monday. In a game likely to be short on quality the Swiss international could well be the man to come up with something special. He is 19/2 to open the scoring.
Former Chelsea full back Patrick Van Aanholt is reported to be interesting Manchester City. The Dutchman’s strong point is going forward and he will be super-charged to score and impress Pep Guardiola so look out for him getting on the mark. He is 12/1 for the first goal and 15/4 to score at any-time. He has not yet scored this season but bagged five last season and netted against Stoke two years ago this weekend.
The game to finish 2-2 at 65/4
Palace will fight hard but unbeaten in three, Stoke could draw 2-2 for the third game in a row.
Stoke to win 2-1 at 14/1
Stoke have more quality than rock bottom Palace and are gaining belief as they begin to string some results together.
