Crystal Palace v West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 26, 2017
Selhurst Park - Premier League
Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace welcome West Ham to Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Slaven Bilic’s side boosted by the midweek win over Tottenham.
The Hammers have an excellent record in recent meetings with Palace, winning three out of their last four Premier League games against them.
Slaven Bilic's side did the 'double' over the Eagles last season, winning 3-0 at the London Stadium and sealing a 1-0 away win - with Manuel Lanzini scoring in both games.
Palace's last win over West Ham came back in February 2015, courtesy of a 3-1 win at Upton Park.
Hodgson has no no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit of the Hammers, with long term absentees the only Palace players set to miss out this weekend.
Striker Christian Benteke is continuing his recovery from knee surgery, as is fellow forward Connor Wickham, who is recovering from a similar operation.
West Ham have doubts over two players ahead of their trip across London to take on Palace. Defender James Collins faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury, as does striker Diafra Sakho who is back in training following a back strain.
Some of the West Ham fringe players may have played themselves into contention with their performances against Spurs, coming from two goals down to win 3-2.
Crystal Palace v West Ham Preview and Predictions
Hodgson would have been hoping that the 2-1 win over Chelsea a fortnight ago would have created a springboard for his side to turn around their dreadful start to the season, however it was not to be the case as they suffered a late defeat to Newcastle on Sunday and an embarrassment at Bristol City in midweek.
Conceding so late on against the Magpies will have irked Hodgson, but he will be hoping to harness the power of the home crowd to propel his players on Saturday. He will will also be hoping that his makeshift front two of Andros Townsend and Wilf Zaha can continue to cause problems as they have done in recent weeks.
Bilic has been under pressure throughout the season, peaking after the 3-0 home defeat to Brighton in their last Premier League outing, and while the win over Spurs eased things somewhat, a disappointing result here will undo any goodwill.
Both sides have a poor record coming into this game, with Palace winning just once in the League all season and West Ham winning just once in their last five league games.
The likelihood is that both teas will cancel each other out and settle for a draw - which is priced at 12/5.
Neither side is in great goal scoring form either, with West Ham scoring four in their last five league games and Crystal Palace netting just twice in the same period.
A low scorer looks to be firmly on the cards, which is priced at 8/11.
A 1-1 draw at 11/2
Neither side look to have the confidence to go out an attack this game given their respective form in recent games, and both will be concerned as to where a loss would leave them, particularly Bilic.
With that in mind a cautious approach should be adopted by both bosses, and a draw will not benefit either significantly, but it will stop a losing streak from developing.
Wilf Zaha to score first at 5/1
Zaha has been excellent since his return form injury for the Eagles, scoring against Chelsea and leading a famous win against Antonio Conte's side two weeks ago. His pace and direct style will be a real concern for a ponderous West Ham defence, and if he is afforded space he will be able to attack the at will.
