Everton v Newcastle Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 19, 2018
Goodison Park - Premier League
The latest edition of Monday night football sees Everton welcome Newcastle to Goodison Park in front of the cameras and under the floodlights. With speculation surrounding both managers, Sam Allardyce and Rafa Benitez will hope their players do the talking on the pitch.
Everton have won their last four games against Newcastle, including a 1-0 victory at St James’ Park earlier this season. The last two games at Goodison have ended 3-0 to the Toffees, while the Magpies have only won one of their last nine games against the Merseyside outfit.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is one of five Everton players set to miss this games, as he continues to recover from a knee injury. James McCarthy, Mason Holgate, Eliaquim Mangala and Maarten Stekelenburg are the hosts' other absentees.
Newcastle have no injury concerns ahead of this game, so Benitez has a fully fit squad to pick from. The Magpies boss has a choice to make up top, with Dwight Gayle, Islam Slimani, Joselu and Ayoze Perez all vying for a start.
Everton v Newcastle Preview and Predictions
Everton can make history with a fifth straight victory against Newcastle. The last time the Toffees managed that in the top flight was back in 1920, but the visitors are the second most in-form team in the Premier League.
Toffees supporters were given the chance to rate manager Allardyce’s performance during his time in charge over the last week. However, with his lucrative contract set to expire in the summer of 2019, it’s unlikely that the board will be looking for a new boss in the coming months.
This game is a great chance for Allardyce to get one over on his old club, and Everton are 33/25 to pick up a win that would give them a four-point lead over the team who are one place below them in 10th. Newcastle have played a game less than the Toffees though, and look good for a finish in the top half of the table.
That would be an excellent achievement for Benitez and his team considering their form earlier in the season, and the turmoil that seems to perennially surround the club. On the back of four successive wins, the Magpies are 12/5 on Monday, while the draws’s also priced at 12/5.
Everton to win and both teams to score at 17/4
Only four teams have conceded more than the 54 Everton have let in this season, so although the home side start as favourites, Newcastle are likely to get their chances.
Everton to win 3-0 at 25/1
However, if you think the Toffees defence can stand strong, these are very good odds for the hosts to record their third straight 3-0 victory over Newcastle at Goodison.
