Craven Cottage - Premier League
Bottom club Fulham host Leicester in this midweek round of fixtures, as Claudio Ranieri comes up against his former team. It’s bound to be an emotional one for a number of reasons, but the sole focus will be on securing three points once the whistle blows for the start of the game.
These teams haven’t met for five years, since Leicester beat Fulham 4-3 in the League Cup. Before that, they hadn’t played since another cup tie in 2008, with the most recent league meeting all the way back in 2004.
Andre Schurrle has been ruled out of this game with a muscular problem, which is a real blow for the new Whites boss. It’s unclear how long the German will be out for at the moment, and he joins Andre Zambo Anguissa and Kevin McDonald on the sidelines.
Harry Maguire is closing in on a return to action, which would be a massive boost for Claude Puel. This game could come to soon for both him and Rachid Ghezzal though, while Jamie Vardy faces a late fitness test after feeling something at the weekend.
Fulham v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
Few gave Fulham a chance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and so it proved. Now Ranieri faces a former employer for the second time in as many games, with Leicester currently on the march in the Premier League.
The Foxes moved up to eighth in the table with their 2-0 victory over Watford on Saturday, taking them to six games unbeaten in all competitions. They’ve been dropping points by drawing games though, with three stalemates in their last six league fixtures.
The visitors are the favourites for the win on Wednesday though, priced at 29/20. Fulham are 21/10, so there isn’t much in it, with the draw at 28/11. The hosts have only won twice all season, but one of those came in their last home game, a 3-2 victory over Southampton.
There was plenty of character shown in that performance, which is something Ranieri will continue to inspire in his players. A victory for the hosts could move them out of the bottom three depending on how other results go, but Fulham need to tighten up at the back against a Leicester side who were excellent on the break at the weekend.
Fulham to win and BTTS at 9/2
Back Ranieri to get one over his old club with this bet, which takes into consideration Fulham’s dreadful defensive performances this season.
Mitrovic to score first at 5/1
The Serbian striker showed an instant reaction to Ranieri’s methods with a brace in his last home game, and Fulham need him to fire.
