Fulham v Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 16, 2019
Craven Cottage - Premier League
Second from bottom plays third in the Premier League this weekend, as Fulham host Tottenham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. Spurs have a great away record this season, but they’re staring at a number of crises right now.
Tottenham have won nine of the last 10 Premier League meetings between the sides, including a 3-1 triumph at Wembley earlier this season. Fulham won 1-0 at White Hart Lane in 2013, and you have to go back to 2008 to find their next league victory against Sours.
The big team news ahead of this game is that Harry Kane has been ruled out for two months after damaging ankle ligaments in the dying embers of Tottenham’s defeat against Manchester United. It’s a monumental blow for Spurs, compounded by Son Heung-min going to the Asian Cup this week. Lucas Moura has a knock and is another doubt, along with Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier.
The hosts have a much cleaner bill of health coming into this tough game. Alfie Mawson is the only player who definitely misses out, as he gets stuck into rehab on his knee injury. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is expected to make his return from an ankle issue, bolstering Claudio Ranieri’s options for the weekend.
Fulham v Tottenham Preview and Predictions
Tottenham come into this game with the Premier League’s best away record, scoring the most goals and winning the most points. However, they are without their main man, as well as at least another one of their main supply lines. Fulham meanwhile are five points from safety, as their relegation fears grow stronger with each passing week.
The Cottagers were hugely unfortunate to lose at Burnley last weekend, taking the lead through a stunning Andre Schurrle goal inside the opening couple of minutes. They were pegged back by a Joe Bryan own goal though, before a second Whites player, Denis Odoi, turned into his own net to hand Burnley a 2-1 win.
Ranieri desperately needs to sort out his defence, which has conceded 49 goals in 22 games. If he doesn’t, Fulham will go down. Thankfully for the Cottagers, their visitors on Sunday have been shorn of Kane and Son, who account for 22 of their 46 Premier League goals. With six-goal Moura also doubtful, that accounts for over half of their tally.
For this reason, Fulham may fancy their chances of a result, and they’re certainly more attractive than they would’ve been in this game at 9/2. Other problems are mounting for Tottenham, including their stadium move, and rumours surrounding Mauricio Pochettino and Christian Eriksen. Spurs are still favourites though at 4/5, while the draw’s priced at 45/17.
Tottenham to win and over 2.5 goals at 7/4
Even with their missing players, Tottenham have the quality to see off this Fulham team, who have an awful defensive record.
Draw and under 2.5 goals at 18/5
However, there’s no doubt Spurs are much weaker going forward, and that could give Fulham a sniff of a point. This bet covers you for a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.
