Huddersfield Town v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 05, 2019
John Smith’s Stadium - Premier League
Both Huddersfield and Arsenal are coming into this weekend’s game looking to bounce back from disappointing defeats last time out. The Terriers are sliding towards relegation, but can they give themselves some hope with an unlikely victory over a top-four hopeful?
Since Huddersfield were promoted to the top flight for the start of last season, Arsenal have won all three Premier League meetings between the sides without conceding a goal. The Gunners won the first of those games 5-0 at the Emirates, with a pair of one-nils to the Arsenal coming since.
Jonathan Hogg only has a 50/50 chance of making this game, while Isaac Mbenza is expected to miss out after going off injured at the weekend. Danny Williams and Abdelhamid Sabiri both miss out, although there’s good news for Jan Siewert in the form of Aaron Mooy, who came through 90 minutes against Chelsea on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s defensive problems continue to stack up, with Shkodran Mustafi a doubt for this game after picking up an injury against Manchester City on Sunday. Konstantinos Mavropanos will partner Laurent Koscielny in central defence if the German doesn’t make it. Fellow defenders Sokratis, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are all injured, while Granit Xhaka has a tight groin.
Huddersfield Town v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
Huddersfield are fast running out of time, and crushing defeats like the one they suffered against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend won’t do their confidence any good whatsoever. Arsenal’s confidence isn’t soaring either, after they learnt they’re still a long way off Manchester City as they went down 3-1 at the Etihad.
Jan Siewert must already be planning for life in the Championship. His newly-inherited Huddersfield side are 13 points from safety with 13 games left this season, while they’ve only managed to score 13 goals. An unlucky number indeed, and the reason why the Terriers are the underdogs in the betting, priced at 5/1.
Unai Emery will already be planning for next season too, but with only £45m to spend on new players, according to reports this week. He knows a place in the top four and the Champions League revenue that comes with it is crucial to his success at Arsenal, and he’ll make sure his players are tuned in for this game.
The Gunners are the 16/25 favourites to make it four wins on the spin against Huddersfield, who’ve lost 11 of their last 12 Premier League games. It’d be a huge surprise if Arsenal don’t win, so a draw for the hosts would be a solid result in the circumstances. That’s available at 16/5 in the betting.
Arsenal to win to nil at 15/8
The Gunners have won all three Premier League meetings between the sides without conceding a goal, and the Terriers are struggling badly to put the ball into the back of the net.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score first at 10/3
The Arsenal striker has scored two more goals than the whole Huddersfield squad put together this term, and he broke the deadlock in last season’s corresponding fixture.
