Huddersfield v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 07, 2018
John Smith's Stadium - Premier League
Maurizio Sarri meets Huddersfield in his first Premier League game as the Terriers host Chelsea after avoiding relegation in their Premier League debut.
Chelsea drew 1-1 with Huddersfield at home last season, with Marcos Alonso and Laurent Depoitre on the score sheet in that game.
The Blues previously won 3-1 in West Yorkshire, with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Pedro and Willian scoring, before Depoitre netted a late consolation.
After being on loan at the club last season, Huddersfield secured permanent deals for Jonas Lossl and Terence Kongolo, from Mainz and Monaco respectively, and he both should start.
Chelsea have brought in Jorginho from Sarri's former club Napoli over the summer, and he is expected to line up in midfield alongside Cesc Fabregas.
N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard are only just back in training following their World Cup participation, and are unlikely to feature in this clash.
Huddersfield v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Huddersfield won plenty of admirers last season as David Wagner's side negotiated their way clear of the relegation zone - and now he challenge for the German boss is to maintain that momentum in this campaign.
Chelsea looked shell shocked during their Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, and Sarri still has plenty of work to do with his squad as he looks to get his ideas across to them.
On the whole the Blues have looked good in pre season, beating Manchester United and Inter Milan (on penalties), and the Italian knows that he needs to get off to a strong start in his new job after the club made no secret of the wish to bring him in as the replacement for Antonio Conte.
Sarri is sill putting he pieces together, but his side should have enough to win this one - priced at 4/7 to collect all three points on Saturday.
In all five of their pre season clashes there has not been one game that has seen over 2.5 goals scored in total, and Huddersfield do no look to have the fire power to really threaten Chelsea - and with that in mind, and under 2.5 goals bet is at 5/6 here.
Chelsea to win 2-0 at 13/2
Chelsea under performed massively in the Premier League last season, and Sarri's appointment is a clear sign of the club looking to rectify the situation. He needs to start strongly to avoid speculation over his suitability, and the Terriers are a relatively tame introduction to the Premier League for him.
Pedro to score first at 11/2
The former Barcelona man has scored twice in pre season, and Sarri has already placed a lot of faith in the pacy forward. With Hazard set to be rested for this game, Pedro is certain to start and he will want to make his case for regular football in the coming weeks.
