Huddersfield v Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 16, 2019
John Smith's Stadium - Premier League
Caretaker Huddersfield manager Mark Hudson faces the daunting visit of Premier League champions Manchester City in his first game in charge.
City hammered The Terriers 6-1 at the Etihad earlier this season, with Sergio Aguero netting a hat trick that day. Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten in all three of their Premier League meetings with Huddersfield, following their promotion at the start of last season.
Huddersfield have fresh injury news ahead of the visit of City, with Danny Williams sidelined until March, and Aaron Mooy and Abdelhamid Sabiri not expected to be back in action until the end of January.
Guardiola could recall club captain Vincent Kompany, who has recovered from a calf injury. However fellow defender Benjamin Mendy is still a few weeks ago from full fitness.
Huddersfield v Manchester City Predictions and Preview
Huddersfield parted ways with manager David Wagner earlier this week, with Hudson stepping in on a temporary basis as the club considers their options. He will be expecting a rallying response from his players, however their form makes from grim reading with eight losses and one draw from their last nine Premier League games.
City have responded to the dip in form over the Christmas, in spectacular fashion, with five successive wins in league and cup action ahead of this weekend. They could be seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, if Jurgen Klopp's side win on Saturday, and nothing but a strong performance and all three points will do for the visitors.
Of course an outright City win has little value, but City to be victorious and over 2.5 goals scored in the match comes in at a price of 4/7. With City sensing blood against the rock bottom West Yorkshire side, Guardiola's team should be ruthless, and they are at 5/6 to win both halves.
Manchester City to win 3-0 at 11/2
City know they have to keep the pressure on Liverpool in the coming weeks, and with Klopp's side playing 24 hours earlier this week, there will be a little added pressure on the defending champions. However there is nothing to suggest that Huddersfield are in the mood to pull of a shock.
Sergio Aguero to score first at 16/5
Aguero has been missing through injury in the pas fortnight, with a substitute appearance in the win over Wolves last time out. However despite his injury concerns of late, he is still in form, with ten Premier League goals so far this season, bested only by Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
