Huddersfield Town v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
October 18, 2017
John Smith's Stadium - Premier League
Huddersfield are beginning to find Premier League life a little difficult, and Manchester United will provide another huge test for the Terriers.
This Yorkshire v Lancashire derby has never been seen before in the Premier League, with 2017-18 being a season of many firsts for Huddersfield. The Terriers' long absence from the top flight of English football means that these two have not played each other since the 1971-72 First Division season, with United winning twice that season. Huddersfield's last victory over the Red Devils came all the way back in 1952, courtesy of a 3-2 home win.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho faces a selection headache in midfield ahead of his side's short trip down the motorway to take on Huddersfield. The Portuguese boss is without Paul Pogba until next month after the Frenchman underwent surgery to cure a hamstring problem.
Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick are both out of the weekend's game with respective knee and calf injuries, while Eric Bailly is sidelined with a thigh problem, although he could be a late inclusion. These absences will mean an extended first team run for Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Chris Smalling as United look to continue their recent good form.
David Wagner will be hoping that his two main strikers are fit to start, with Huddersfield seriously short of goal threat in their recent games. Steve Mounie and Collin Quaner have been sidelined with heel and calf injuries, but both are back in first team training and could make a start. German defender Michael Hefele and midfielder Kasey Palmer are still a few weeks away from a return, as they continue their recoveries from respective achilles and hamstring injuries.
Huddersfield Town v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Huddersfield are in free fall at the moment, with their excellent start to life in the top flight seeming like a distant memory. They're without a win in their last six Premier League games, losing their last two against Tottenham and Swansea.
United on the other hand are unbeaten in the Premier League this season, including that drab draw at Anfield in their last outing. They still travel to Huddersfield full of confidence in getting a victory though. Given the poor recent form of the hosts and the array of attacking talent available to Mourinho, an away win looks to be a sensible option in this game, and is currently priced at 1/3. The Terriers are available at 11/1, while the draw's 4/1.
Aside from their last game, United have been in free-scoring form this season, with 11 goals in their previous four Premier League games to see off Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace. Romelu Lukaku has been the focal point, but backed up by Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and a host of others. United should rack up a few goals against struggling Huddersfield, and an over 2.5 goals bet looks good at 5/6.
Manchester United to win 3-0 at 15/2
United's attacking lineup will give real problems to a Huddersfield defence significantly lacking in Premier League experience this season. With Liverpool coming up next for Wagner's team things may get a little worse before they get better, but they have the capability to recapture their early season form. However at this stage United look in ruthless form, particularly against those in the lower half of the table.
Lukaku to score first at 9/4
The Belgian hitman's been fantastic for United this season. After swapping Goodison Park for Old Trafford in the summer, he's scored seven goals in eight Premier League games so far. Up against a Huddersfield side that's lost its way defensively in recent weeks - they've kept just one clean sheet in their last six games in all competitions - Lukaku should cause them all sorts of problems if he's in the mood.
