Huddersfield v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 18, 2018
John Smith's Stadium - Premier League
David Wagner's Huddersfield side welcome Southampton to West Yorkshire this weekend, in what is already a relegation six-pointer.
This clash ended in two draws in 2017-18, in The Terriers first ever Premier League campaign. The last time the met before then was back in the 2010-11 season, when they were both in League One, with a home win apiece.
Huddersfield have only one new fitness concern ahead of Southampton's visit, with Rajiv van la Parra suffering a back injury in training, but striker Steve Mounie is in line to return to the starting XI, after serving a three match suspension.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl will make a decision later in the week about the fitness of defensive pair, Cedric Soares and Jack Stephens.
Nathan Redmond, Ryan Bertrand, Mario Lemina and Michael Obafemi are all still sidelined until later in December.
Huddersfield v Southampton Predictions and Preview
Huddersfield head into this game on the back of four successive defeats in the Premier League, with losses at home to Brighton and Newcastle, and no home win since November 5.
Southampton will be buoyed by their first win under their new manager, and will head north full of confidence after bursting Arsenal's unbeaten bubble.
This game could have ramifications for who stays up and who goes down, despite the early stage of the season, but with Southampton in 17th and Huddersfield in 19th, it could be a real scrap.
With points the priority, neither side will want to expose themselves too much, particularly as Hasenhuttl is still finding his feet in the Premier League - so with that in mind, a draw, priced at 2/1, looks to be the way to go.
Neither side have been in great goal scoring form of late, with the three goals Southampton scored against Arsenal boosting their tally to six in their last five games, with Huddersfield netting four in their last five games. With the stakes high in this one, and under 2.5 total goals scored bet is available at 8/15.
A 1-1 draw at 5/1
Both sides will be wary of heading into a hectic festive period on the back of a defeat, particularly Huddersfield, and that means that this clash is probably not one for the neutral observer. But a well earned point for both sides will ease the strain a little ahead of the half way stage.
Danny Ings to score anytime at 11/8
Liverpool loanee Ings scored twice in he win over Arsenal, bringing his numbers up to seven in all competitions so far this season. His confidence is high after playing a key role in beating Arsenal, and the Huddersfield defenders will have to keep an eye on him.
