John Smith’s Stadium - Premier League
Huddersfield welcome Watford to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the visitors looking to exact a measure of revenge. The home side though have been dragged down into the relegation dogfight, so we could be in for an entertaining game at the weekend.
Huddersfield went to Vicarage Road in December and smashed four past Watford with just one coming back in reply. The teams have played each other regularly in the Championship over recent years, with neither side holding a real advantage. In 12 meetings before this season, the Terriers won six and the Hornets five.
The home side will be without Danny Williams and Elias Kachunga, who have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Michael Hefele is expected to miss another couple of weeks after knee surgery, while Jon Stankovic and Jonathan Hogg are also doubts for this crucial clash.
Javi Gracia inherited something of an injury nightmare and it’s hardly let up since the Hornets boss took over. Gerard Deulofeu is going to miss most of the campaign, while Younes Kaboul, Tom Cleverley, Tommie Hoban and Nathaniel Chalobah are all out. Christian Kabasele make his return from a thigh problem in this game though.
Huddersfield v Watford Preview and Predictions
Just five points separate these two teams in the Premier League table, although the margin is huge when it comes to the survival prospects of either side. Watford travel north with a nine-point buffer to the relegation zone, while a bad weekend for Huddersfield could see them just a point above the bottom three.
To make matters worse for the Terriers, 18th-placed Southampton have a game in hand over them. However, with the Saints playing Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, David Wagner’s side could start this game knowing that a victory would take seven points clear of the drop.
It’s all about points on the board at this stage of the season, and Huddersfield are priced at 17/10 to get three valuable ones on there come the final whistle. Watford meanwhile are priced at 2/1 as they look to avenge the drubbing the Terriers meted out to them in front of their own supporters.
The Hornets are just one win away from the magical 40-point mark, but given this season’s league table, a point could be just as valuable in securing top flight football for another season. If you think a stalemate’s on the cards, that’s priced at 11/5 in the betting.
Huddersfield to win 4-1 at 80/1
It would be some result if the Terriers can secure a second 4-1 triumph over Watford this season, and it’d give Wagner’s side a huge boost in their quest for survival.
Watford to win and both teams to score at 5/1
Or if you fancy the visitors to pick up the points, it’s doubtful they’ll keep a clean sheet in the process - only Stoke have conceded more than the 59 goals the Hornets have shipped so far this term.
