Hull City v Sunderland Predictions, Betting Tips & Previews
May 02, 2017
Saturday 6 May – KCOM Stadium – Premier League
Hull City continue their bid for Premier League survival on Saturday, as the Tigers host Sunderland at the KCOM Stadium. Marco Silva’s side have the chance to go five points clear of Swansea, before their relegation rivals host Everton in the day’s late kick off.
Sunderland go into this game with their only chance to do the double over a team this season. David Moyes’ men beat Hull 3-0 at the Stadium of Light in November, courtesy of a Viktor Anichebe double after Jermain Defoe’s opener. A repeat of last season’s 1-1 draw would be a major blow to the home side this time round.
Hull boss Silva is hopeful that on-loan Omar Elabdellaoui will play again this season, but Saturday may be too soon for the Norwegian international. Dieumerci Mbokani could make his first start since February though, when the striker suffered a hamstring injury.
David Moyes meanwhile will look for positive news from the injured quartet of Lee Cattermole, Darron Gibson, Jack Rodwell and Jason Denayer. All four failed late fitness tests for the defeat against Bournemouth, which eventually sealed their relegation from the Premier League.
Hull City v Sunderland Preview and Predictions
Although time’s been called on Sunderland’s decade-long stay in the Premier League, Hull still have a great chance of staying up. While Moyes’ reign on Wearside has been gloomy from the start, it’s quite a different story for opposite number Silva since the Portuguese took charge of the Tigers in January.
With just one win in 18 before he arrived, the new manager’s guided Hull to six wins from 15 league games so far. This has taken the Tigers to the brink of safety, but there’s still a lot of work to do. After Saturday, Hull travel to Sam Allardyce’s resurgent Crystal Palace before hosting Tottenham on the final day of the season. The hosts go into this one as 1/2 favourites to pick up a crucial three points against Sunderland.
Despite already being relegated, the visitors still have a huge role to play in the Premier League season finale. After travelling to Hull, the Black Cats then host Swansea next weekend. Moyes’ side have just one win since before Christmas, and start as 15/2 underdogs at the KCOM on Saturday. If you think Hull’s chances of survival will be hit with a draw, the price is 18/5.
Hull to win to nil at 13/10
Improve your odds on a home win by betting that Sunderland will fail to score. The goals have dried up from star man Jermain Defoe, who hasn’t scored since the start of February.
Hull to win 3-0 at 11/1
Back Hull to run away with a comfortable victory, as they match Sunderland’s winning margin from earlier in the season.
