LA Galaxy v Vancouver Whitecaps Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
July 17, 2017
Thursday 20 July – StubHub Center – Major League Soccer
After defeat against Manchester United in a glamour friendly, it’s back to business for the LA Galaxy as they host the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS. Curt Onalfo’s side can move above the visitors with a win, although the Canadian outfit have a game in hand.
The Vancouver Whitecaps won this season’s corresponding fixture 4-2 at the start of April. After only losing one of their first 12 games against the Whitecaps, LA have won just one of the last six meetings. Steven Gerrard assisted both goals in a 2-0 victory just over a year ago.
The Galaxy replaced every player at half time against Manchester United on Saturday night, except for defender Nathan Smith. Giovani dos Santos played the second half and scored a brace, and will be LA’s biggest threat against the Whitecaps.
Matias Laba struck twice in the last 25 minutes to secure the three points the last time these teams met. After missing the win over New York City before the international break, the midfielder’s expected to return to the side.
LA Galaxy v Vancouver Whitecaps Preview and Predictions
It’s sixth against eighth in the Western Conference, as the race for the post season hots up. A win for either side would come as a huge boost, but it’s particularly important for the home side as they try to avoid being cut adrift of the teams above.
The glamorous friendly game against Manchester United didn’t come at a great time for the Galaxy. LA went into the match on the back of three straight defeats in MLS and the US Open Cup, and they’ve now conceded 16 goals in their last four outings. They’re still very much in contention for the MLS Cup Playoffs, but with some decent teams just above them, Onalfo could really use a win.
The home side start as 10/11 favourites against the Whitecaps, who are priced at 16/5 in the betting. The visitors are coming into the game on the back of a thrilling victory over NYC. After going 2-1 down, Yordy Reyna scored a late winner to claim the win. It was almost a point apiece in that game, and you can get 11/4 on a draw in this one.
LA Galaxy to win to nil at 13/5
Six of the last ten games between these two teams have seen a win to nil. The Vancouver Whitecaps are 13/2 to do the same.
Under 3 goals at 21/20
This bet would’ve paid out in nine of the last ten meetings between the Galaxy and the Whitecaps.
