Leicester City v Newcastle United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 08, 2019
King Power Stadium - Premier League
Brendan Rodgers is looking to keep a good thing going on Friday night as his Leicester City team host Newcastle United at the King Power. The Foxes are aiming for their fifth successive victory under their new manager, while the Magpies are looking to avoid their third straight defeat.
Leicester have won six of the last seven meetings between the sides, including a 2-0 victory on Tyneside earlier this season. Newcastle’s first victory over the Foxes since October 2014 came at the King Power last term, as they recorded a 2-1 win in Leicester.
Jonny Evans is a doubt with the hip injury that kept him out at the weekend, but Harry Maguire is back in the fold after being given some time off following the birth of his daughter. Daniel Amartey and Marc Albrighton are both out, but there’s good news in that the latter is back in training after it was feared he’d miss the rest of the season.
Mohamed Diame is a doubt for the visitors, while Sean Longstaff and Florian Lejeune are both out for the remainder of the campaign due to knee injuries. Lejeune went off on a stretcher in Newcastle’s defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, compounding a miserable afternoon for the Toon Army.
Leicester City v Newcastle United Preview and Predictions
They’ve had a decent run of fixtures in recent weeks, but there’s no doubt the arrival of Rodgers has lifted the mood at Leicester. The atmosphere had improved at Newcastle following some good results and a positive January transfer window, but they’re in danger of being sucked back into the relegation battle after three games without a win.
Leicester meanwhile have won their last four matches, beating Fulham, Burnley and Bournemouth before a 4-1 victory at Huddersfield last weekend. The Foxes are in the groove and playing more exciting football than under Claude Puel. There are tougher challengers to come of course, but the home team should have enough to get the job done once again this weekend.
Newcastle on the other hand have lost their last two games without scoring a goal, even if they did manage plenty of attempts in losing against Palace on Saturday. The Magpies need to pick up some more points to pull clear of Cardiff who are currently in 18th, although confirming top scorer Salomon Rondon as a permanent signing indicates their confidence.
The bookmakers are pretty confident Newcastle won’t be taking the points back to the North East this weekend though. The visitors are 17/4 for the win, while Leicester are priced at 7/10 and the draw’s available at 29/10.
Leicester to win to nil at 19/10
Newcastle have failed to hit the back of the net in their last two games, while Leicester look full of confidence at the moment.
Jamie Vardy to score first at 3/1
The English striker has helped himself to six goals in five games under Rodgers, and is a solid bet to break the deadlock.
