Leicester v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
April 16, 2018
King Power Stadium - Premier League
After their gut-wrenching defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, Southampton travel to Leicester with their Premier League status severely under threat. The Foxes also lost at the weekend and are looking to bounce back in front of their own supporters.
Leicester were three up by half-time when the teams met at St Mary’s in December, eventually going on to win 4-1. The Saints took four points off the then-reigning champions last season though, drawing 0-0 at the King Power before a comfortable 3-0 victory in the return.
Kasper Schmeichel is a doubt for the home team after limping away from Turf Moor with an ankle injury, while Wilfred Ndidi is suspended. Vicente Iborra is another big miss for Claude Puel after he’s been ruled out for the season, joining Matty James and Daniel Amartey on the treatment table.
Jack Stephens also has a suspension to serve after his recent sending off against Arsenal. Steven Davis is expected to miss out with an Achilles problem, but he’s the only injury concern for Saints manager Mark Hughes coming into this crucial fixture.
Leicester v Southampton Preview and Predictions
Leicester’s defeat at Burnley has all but ended the Foxes’ bid to get into next season’s Europa League, as Puel’s side now find themselves nine points behind the seventh-placed Clarets. Despite having an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley to look forward to, it’s doom and gloom at Southampton who are now five points from safety.
After a superb recovery under Puel, Leicester’s season has disintegrated in recent weeks. Three 2-1 losses in the space of four games has seen them dumped out of the FA Cup and surely without European football next term.
It could go one of two ways on Thursday - either the Foxes show some snarling character to take out their frustration on the struggling Saints, or the players start looking ahead to the World Cups and beaches of the summer. After getting the sack not long after leading Southampton to the League Cup final last season, current Leicester boss Puel will hope it's the former.
The Saints meanwhile have now painfully lost their last two games by the same 3-2 scoreline against Chelsea and Arsenal. Boss Hughes is in grave danger of becoming the first manager to take two Premier League clubs down in the same season, and he needs a win. The Saints are priced at 12/5 to get it, while Leicester are available at 34/25. The draw is 5/2, with a repeat of last season’s goalless stalemate at 10/1.
Both teams to score at 4/5
Both teams pose a threat, and while Leicester are usually strong at home, Southampton have managed four in their last two games against top six sides.
Leicester to win 3-2 at 30/1
Back the Foxes to inflict a third straight 3-2 defeat on Southampton. Or, bet on the Saints to inflict yet another 2-1 defeat on Leicester at odds of 12/1.
