Lithuania v England Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 06, 2017
Vilniaus LFF Stadium - World Cup Qualifying Group F
England have already qualified for the World Cup finals while Lithuania cannot change their final position of fifth in the group. After a poor performance at Wembley on Thursday though England will want to finish on a high.
This will be the fourth meeting since March 2015. England have won all three so far without conceding. Nine goals have been scored in the 4-0, 3-0 and 2-0 wins but no player has scored more than once. The only previous game in Lithuania finished 3-0.
Now free from suspension the re-introduction of Dele Alli will add invention and edge to what was a pale performance from a lack-lustre England on Thursday. Other than the Spurs man’s likely return there is a good chance that Southgate will reward members of his squad who have not played much in the group and give fringe men a game now that qualification is guaranteed.
Lithuania are expected to be at full strength and will be lifted by ending their losing run and also by playing England as they were at Wembley.
Lithuania v England Preview and Predictions
England are 4/11 to win with Lithuania 17/2 and the odds on a draw being 4/1.
Should England lose to Lithuania or even be held to a draw it would be a major surprise. England were sluggish and lacking in inspiration as they sealed qualification for Russia by beating Slovenia with an injury time goal on Thursday but nonetheless they have qualified and by barely conceding a goal.
Freed from any pressure of having to produce results perhaps England will play with more freedom and the football and the goals will flow. However while Lithuania are limited and lacking in confidence they have shown that can be good at restricting better teams from totally embarrassing them.
Players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been out of touch but might be given another opportunity while maybe Southgate may rest top men such as Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson.
However regardless of which eleven Southgate sends out to complete the group fixtures England should have far too much for Lithuania and arguably a side made up of players on the fringes might be hungrier than the men who played on Thursday.
England to win 2-0 at 11/2
2-0 would sign off the group nicely for England and Lithuania, as they did at Wembley, will look to manage damage limitation against the group winners.
England to win after drawing at half time at 14/5
England laboured on Thursday only scoring in injury time. They will win but may well have to wait for a breakthrough.
