Liverpool v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 24, 2017
Anfield - Premier League
Two clubs fighting to keep hold of their star players go to battle on Sunday, as Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League. After patchy starts to the new campaign for both teams, this is a chance to lay down a marker.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last four games against Arsenal. The Merseysiders ran out 3-1 winners in this fixture last season, and claimed an exciting 4-3 victory at the Emirates too. The Gunners’ last win at Anfield came almost five years ago.
As Barcelona ramp up their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho, the Brazilian continues to miss out. After a reported back injury, Jurgen Klopp revealed the playmaker has been absent from training because of illness. Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are also missing for the Reds.
Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez also remains on the sidelines, officially because of an abdominal injury. This could be a smokescreen in the face of his contract situation and apparent desire to leave, but Arsene Wenger’s desperate for the Chilean to return. Santi Cazorla’s a long term absentee for the Gunners.
Liverpool v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
After securing their place in the Champions League via the playoffs, it’s back to Premier League business for Liverpool. This is an early test of their ability to consistently play twice a week with their return to European football. Arsenal meanwhile need to get back to winning ways after losing at Stoke at the weekend.
Despite all the uncertainty around Coutinho, there’s plenty of encouragement for Klopp with the players that he does have available. Sadio Mane has looked great since returning from injury, while new signing Mohammed Salah’s a more promising proposition that he was at Chelsea. This game’s a close one for the bookmakers to call, but the hosts start as 6/5 favourites.
Although their attack would be a lot stronger with Sanchez, Arsenal’s new boy Alexandre Lacazette has begun well. The Frenchman drew a blank at Stoke, but has already shown he’s capable of finding the back of the net. With lots of talent going forward for both teams and some weaknesses at the back, this one could be another goal fest. The visitors are 5/2 for the win, while the draw’s available at 11/4.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 13/5
Improve your odds on a home win by predicting both sides will find the back of the net. Arsenal are 9/2 for the same bet.
Over 3.5 goals at 13/8
This bet would’ve paid out in seven of the last 10 meetings between the teams, and each of the last four at Anfield.
