Liverpool v Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 14, 2017
Anfield - Premier League
Liverpool host Burnley on Saturday hoping to recover from the 5-0 mauling against Manchester City last weekend and midweek Champions League disappointment.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have a strong record in this fixture, winning five out of their last six Premier League meetings with the Clarets, including a 2-1 win at Anfield last season.
Burnley did beat Liverpool last season, 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Turf Moor, but they are without a point at Anfield since 1975, following a 0-0 draw in the old First Division.
The biggest positive for Liverpool is the return to first team action of Brazil international Philippe Coutinho, who is back in contention following his ongoing transfer saga from this summer. Coutinho was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, however the move failed to materialise, and he is now in line to return to Klopp's plans.
Coutinho failed to start in Liverpool's Champions League draw over Sevilla on Wednesday, with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all starting, meaning that Coutinho may have to wait for his chance from the bench.
Midfielder Adam Lallana is still out of contention with a thigh injury, alongside defender Nathaniel Clyne- who is struggling with a back problem.
Goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and striker Danny Ings are both long term absentees for Liverpool.
Burnley could be boosted by the return of Jeff Hendrick from a thigh injury, with the Republic of Ireland international facing a late fitness test on the problem, and boss Sean Dyche will wait to make a late decision on his fitness.
Goal keeper and Captain Tom Heaton was withdrawn in Burnley's last game with a shoulder injury and he misses this game, with his place set to be taken by Nick Pope.
Forawrd pair Dean Marney and Nahki Wells remain long term casualties for the Lancashire club.
Liverpool v Burnley Preview and Predictions
Their resounding defeat to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City has been the only black mark against a fantastic start to the season for Klopp's side, unbeaten up to that point, including convincing wins over Arsena andl Hoffenheim.
At home against Burnley, their supporters will be boosted by the performance against Sevilla, and will look to drive them on to a victory against Burnley on Saturday.
The strike force of Mane, Firmino and Salah have been in excellent form so far this season, with seven Premier League goals between them so far in 2017-18- their pace and ruthlessness will be a real concern for Burnley ahead of this weekend's meeting.
Burnley have wobbled since their opening day win over Chelsea, losing to West Brom and drawing with Tottenham, before a confidence boosting win over Crystal Palace in their last outing.
However despite this boost, Liverpool should have to much for them on Saturday and a home win is priced at 2/7. Given the free scoring performances of Liverpool this season they should rack up some goals on Saturday, and over 2.5 goals bet is priced at 4/7.
Liverpool to win 3-1 at 11/1
Liverpool have looked very good going forward so far this season, and their counter attacking pace and efficiency should overpower an organised and resolute Burnley side. However they have been far from convincing in defence, keeping just two clean sheets in all competitions so far this season, and Burnley will pose a threat in attack with the likes of Chris Wood and Sam Vokes.
Roberto Firmino to score first at 7/2
Brazilian international Firmino has been the leading light for Liverpool so far this season, operating as a central striker he has providing the base of their creative threat, and he has netted four goals in all competitions so far.
Despite his penalty miss against Sevilla, he should bounce back strongly, and he has been the first goal scorer for Liverpool in their last two games.
