Liverpool v Cardiff City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 23, 2018
Anfield - Premier League
After finally winning their first game back in the top flight, don’t expect Cardiff City to back it up with another one this weekend. The Bluebirds face a daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, who are still unbeaten so far this season.
Liverpool won the last meeting between the sides 6-3 in Cardiff, and also won their home game 3-1 during the 2013/14 campaign. If Cardiff can cause a major shock with a win on Saturday, it would be their first league victory over Liverpool since 1959, when the teams were both in the old Division Two.
Sadio Mane missed Liverpool’s win at Huddersfield last weekend after breaking his thumb on international duty, and he’s also a doubt for this one. Naby Keita has been ruled out, and with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also out for the long term, Jurgen Klopp will hope Jordan Henderson’s thigh injury isn’t serious.
Neil Warnock is set to be without four players for this trip to Merseyside. Joe Ralls is suspended after his red card against Tottenham, while Lee Peltier, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Danny Ward are all injured. Gary Madine could be in the running to play though after recovering from an illness.
Liverpool v Cardiff City Preview and Predictions
There doesn’t seem to be any other result on the cards here other than a home win. Liverpool are in excellent form this season, and while the football itself may not have been quite as scintillating as we’re used to from them, the Reds have been picking up points at an impressive rate.
Cardiff meanwhile finally picked up their first win of the season, doubling their goals tally in the process as they beat Fulham 4-2. The result lifts the Bluebirds out of the relegation zone, but there’s still plenty of work for them to do.
No one expects the visitors to get a result here, so Warnock’s side can treat it as something of a free hit. The away team are available at 32/1 to complete the most shocking of wins, but the home victory looks a lot more sensible. However, at odds of just 1/10, there isn’t much value in it.
As Cardiff had struggled badly for goals before last weekend, a Liverpool win to nil looks like being a strong option here. If you think there’s going to be an upset on the cards though, the draw’s priced at 19/2.
Liverpool to win to nil at 3/4
The Reds have only dropped points against Manchester City and Chelsea this season, and they’ve only conceded three times in nine games.
Liverpool to win and over 3.5 goals at evens
They may only have scored two goals in their last four games in all competitions, but the Reds have the players to dismantle any team, especially at home.
