Liverpool v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 23, 2017
Anfield - Premier League
We could be in for a cracking game at Anfield in Saturday’s evening kick-off, as Liverpool host Chelsea in the Premier League. Both teams are back in domestic action after their contrasting European results in midweek.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five league games against Chelsea, recording three draws and two wins at Stamford Bridge in this period. Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson scored for the Reds in a 2-1 victory last season. Before that though, the Blues won three in a row against the Merseysiders, including twice at Anfield.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could make a couple of changes after picking virtually the same team for the last two games. Joel Matip and Adam Lallana are pushing for a return to action after their thigh injuries, although the latter in particular won’t be rushed back. Klopp’s likely to pick his in-form attacking quartet of Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino once again.
Antonio Conte meanwhile made a few changes for Chelsea’s trip to Azerbaijan, naming the likes of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen on the bench. Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Marcos Alonso were all withdrawn early for a bit of a rest, while Willian’s pushing for a start after his brace. Victor Moses could return from a hamstring problem, although Michy Batshuayi misses out.
Liverpool v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
After throwing away a 3-0 lead against Sevilla, a visit from the Premier League champions isn’t the ideal game for Liverpool to bounce back with. Aside from their capitulation in Rome, Chelsea have been moving through the gears in recent weeks, and will bring plenty of confidence to Anfield.
The draw against Sevilla must have been even more infuriating for Klopp considering the run Liverpool were on after their humiliation at the hands of Tottenham. They’d won four in a row, scoring 13 goals in the process, and have got themselves into a decent position in the Premier League. If the Reds want to finish in the top four, and keep Chelsea’s attacking luminaries at bay, they need to dramatically tighten things up at the back.
Conte will be telling his forwards to get at Saturday’s opposition as much as possible. Hazard’s back in top form, and in Morata the Blues have a player who can bully the likes of Dejan Lovren, Matip and Ragnar Klavan. With four clean sheets in their last five matches, Chelsea’s defence can provide the platform for the team to build on.
The bookmakers have got the hosts as favourites for this one though. Liverpool are available at 6/5, while Chelsea are priced at 13/5. If you think the game will end in a draw, that’s 13/5 too.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 3/1
Back the Reds to put Tuesday’s disappointment behind them by picking up the win, although their defence will struggle to contain Chelsea for the whole 90 minutes.
Chelsea to win to nil at 31/5
Or bet on the visitors to keep yet another clean sheet as they condemn Liverpool to their second disappointing result of the week.
