Liverpool v Crystal Palace Predictions, Betting Tips & Previews
April 19, 2017
Sunday April 23 – Anfield – Premier League
Liverpool’s Champions League hopes are in their own hands and must defeat a resurgent Crystal Palace to keep Arsenal and Manchester United at bay. However, Sam Allardyce’s men are no pushovers and will provide a stern test.
Liverpool have won their past two meetings with the Eagles, but they did lose the home fixture last season. The two have met 35 times in history, with the Reds being predictably dominant, winning 19 and losing only nine.
Liverpool have a few starters on the treatment table as Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan are out, while long term absentees Danny Ings and Oviemuno Ejaria are still unavailable. Philippe Coutinho’s return to form has also helped Roberto Firmino find his feet, so expect the Brazilian pair to be as fundamental as ever.
Conor Wickham, Scott Dann, James Tomkins, Loic Remy and Papa Souare will all be missing through injury for the away side, while star man Mamadou Sakho is unable to face his parent club. With both first-choice centre backs out for Sunday’s trip, Big Sam could be preparing a tactical overhaul.
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Preview and Predictions
Champions League chasing Liverpool are heavy favourites at 1/2, and a quick glance at the league table will tell you all you need to know about the contrast in their seasons so far. But this can be deceiving, and Crystal Palace’s odds of victory at 6/1 present a very intriguing opportunity.
The dark days of Alan Pardew are far behind them, and the Eagles are currently one of the form sides in the division. However, the incredible upturn is largely down to the arrival of Mamadou Sakho, on loan from Sunday’s opponents, who will not be allowed to feature against his parent club. The former PSG man has been awarded man of the match on five of his six outings for the London Club, and orchestrated the 3-0 mauling of Arsenal earlier this month.
Sakho’s absence means Liverpool’s attack, even without the talismanic Mane, will have an easier time than most. Firmino and Divock Origi are joined favourites at 4/1 to open the scoring, but former Liverpool man and record Crystal Palace signing Christian Benteke should not be overlooked at 9/1, as Allardyce’s arrival has seen him come close to replicating his Aston Villa form.
Liverpool to win by one goal at 11/4
Although it has every chance of being a high scoring affair, Liverpool’s top four status has been achieved through outscoring opponents. Without Sakho, Palace are vulnerable, but Liverpool with their preferred back four remain leaky at best.
Philippe Coutinho to score any time at 7/4
The Brazil international has experienced a revival of late and is one of the Premier League’s stand out stars. As every attack will go his way, he should find the net at least once.
