Liverpool v Everton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 03, 2018
Anfield - FA Cup
It’s time for a bonus Merseyside derby on Friday night, as Liverpool welcome Everton to Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup. The Reds are looking for their fourth straight win, while the Blues have lost their last two games.
Everton put in a determined display at Anfield just a few weeks ago, with Wayne Rooney equalising from the penalty spot after Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool in front. The Reds did the double over the Toffees last season, while Everton haven’t won at Anfield since an early Kevin Campbell goal handed them a 1-0 victory back in 1999.
There’s little respite from injuries for Jurgen Klopp, with star men Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho both doubts for this one. Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno, Nathaniel Clyne and Marko Grujic are also expected to miss out, meaning the Liverpool boss has fewer options when it comes to making the odd change to freshen up his side.
Sam Allardyce on the other hand is steadily welcoming players back, with Yannick Bolasie making his first start in over a year against Manchester United on Monday. James McCarthy has also recently returned, while Ross Barkley could be available after having surgery on his hamstring injury. Ramiro Funes Mori, Seasmus Coleman and Leighton Baines are all still out though.
Liverpool v Everton Preview and Predictions
Everton supporters will hope the old cliche of form going out the window on derby day applies to this one. The Toffees have been much better since Allardyce took over, but they’re without a win in four now and struggling for goals. Liverpool meanwhile have had few such problems finding the net, and start this game as favourites in the betting.
The Reds have scored 79 goals already this season across all competitions. As Salah and Coutinho have accounted for almost half of them, Everton will be happy to see the talented duo’s names absent from the team sheet. There’s still plenty of threat in the Liverpool ranks without them though, especially in the form of Roberto Firmino who has 16 goals this term and is 4/1 to open the scoring.
The hosts are 4/9 to win the tie, while Everton are priced at 7/1 to win their first game across Stanley Park for over 18 years. Any success for the Toffees is likely to be built on a well organised defensive display as it was in December’s derby. With the visitors failing to score in three of their last four games, a 1-0 Everton win is priced 21/1.
Liverpool to win to nil at 11/8
Everton didn’t offer much attacking threat a few weeks ago, so this could be a decent bet if the Toffees don’t improve in that area on Friday.
A sending off in the game at 5/2
The last time Everton won at Anfield three players were sent off - Sander Westerveld, Steven Gerrard and Francis Jeffers. Tempers often flair, and they’ll be tested if Everton go ahead.
