Liverpool v Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
January 28, 2019
Anfield - Premier League
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool continue their title charge in this midweek round of Premier League fixtures, with Leicester the visitors to Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds have a four-point lead over Manchester City, which the Blues have the chance to reduce ahead of this game.
Liverpool have won the last three Premier League meetings between the sides, while Leicester recorded back-to-back victories in the league and cup before that. The Reds have won six of their last seven against the Foxes at Anfield, drawing the other in January 2015.
Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho missed training over the weekend due to illness, but thankfully for the hosts, are both expected to be okay for this game. Van Dijk’s presence is crucial to Liverpool, especially with fellow defenders Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold injured, and utility man James Milner suspended.
Harry Maguire is a doubt for the visitors after going off injured against Wolves in the Foxes’ last match. Apart from the England defender, Daniel Amartey is the only other player who Claude Puel will be without for this difficult trip to Merseyside.
Liverpool v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
Liverpool are bearing down on their first title triumph since 1990, but defending champions Manchester City aren’t going to let their crown slip without a fight. Jurgen Klopp knows his team have to keep winning at all costs, and that’s what they’ve done since falling to their first defeat of the season at City earlier this month.
After also going out of the FA Cup at Wolves, the Reds have shown their battling qualities to take a 1-0 win at Brighton, followed by a pulsating 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace in their last game. That win took Liverpool to 32 games unbeaten at home in the league, and they have the chance to win an eighth successive game at Anfield for the first time since 2010.
The hosts are 2/9 to do just that, and they should have more than enough if their recent results at Anfield are anything to go by. The Reds have scored four goals or more in their last three games in front of their home fans, and put three past Manchester United before that.
Leicester have a monumental task ahead of them if they’re going to get a result on Wednesday. They’ve lost their last 11 games against teams top of the Premier League, although the Foxes did record back-to-back victories over City and Chelsea last month. The visitors ate 14/1 to spring another surprise, while the draw’s priced at 6/1.
Liverpool to win and over 3.5 goals at 13/8
This bet would’ve paid out in each of Liverpool’s last four games at Anfield, so it could be a great way to boost the odds on the home win.
Mohamed Salah to score first at 11/4
The Egyptian has scored nine goals in his last eight Premier League games, making him the division’s top scorer.
