Liverpool v Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 13, 2018
Anfield - Premier League
We could be in for a pre-Christmas cracker this weekend as Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Jurgen Klopp’s side are absolutely flying this season, while the complete opposite’s true for their visitors here.
Although they’re bang out of form this term, United are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games against Liverpool, which could give them some hope. After a goalless draw at Anfield last season, United won 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to a first-half brace from Marcus Rashford.
Liverpool picked up a few injuries in their Champions League victory over Napoli on Tuesday night. Joel Matip, James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all doubts for this game, while Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne are out. Thankfully for Klopp, Dejan Lovren is expected to be fit.
Jose Mourinho also has problems at the back, with Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling all expected to miss this game through injury. Anthony Martial could return after picking up a small muscle problem last week against Arsenal, although Alexis Sanchez is out until the new year.
Liverpool v Manchester United Preview and Predictions
While Manchester United’s midweek trip to Valencia had no significance in terms of qualification to the knockout stage of the Champions League, Liverpool were made to work at home against Napoli. Both sides are through though, so attention can turn back to the Premier League and this huge clash between two bitter rivals.
The league table doesn’t make for pretty reading if you’re a United supporter though. Mourinho’s side are a massive 16 points behind Liverpool after 16 games, which is the same gap they have to the relegation zone. The Anfield outfit are still unbeaten and top of the pile after Manchester City fell to their first defeat of the season at Chelsea last weekend.
The hosts are the clear favourites for the win, priced at 6/10. This is a big test of the Reds’ title credentials, but they look more than equal to the challenge after winning 13 times already this season, conceding just six goals in the process.
United are 11/2 to end Liverpool’s unbeaten record, but that doesn’t look very likely. The Red Devils got their first victory in five Premier League games last weekend, but it was at home to bottom side Fulham. Given the circumstances, a draw would be a great result for the visitors, and it’s priced at 33/10.
Liverpool to win to nil at 23/12
The Reds have only conceded six goals so far this term, while they have the forward line to take apart their visitors’ poor defence.
Mo Salah to score first at 10/3
The Egyptian is back to his best and is the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with 10 goals. He already has four goals in the past week, and will be looking to add to that on Sunday.
