Liverpool v Maribor Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 30, 2017
Anfield - Champions League
After getting slaughtered in the last meeting between the sides, Maribor travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool no doubt full of trepidation.
That clash a couple of weeks ago was the first time the two clubs had met. Liverpool ran out comfortable 7-0 winners in Slovenia, with Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold all getting on the scoresheet.
After pulling out of Liverpool’s game against Huddersfield at the weekend during the warm-up, under-fire Dejan Lovren is expected to miss this one too. Coutinho is a doubt with a hip problem, while the likes of Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are all still out.
It’s fair to say that we can expect Maribor boss Darko Milanic to shut up shop as best as he can on Wednesday. The former defender captained Slovenia at Euro 2000, and he’ll expect a more resilient performance from his defensive unit after they capitulated in the first game against the Reds.
Liverpool v Maribor Preview and Predictions
It’s virtually impossible to see anything other than another Liverpool win going into this encounter. The real question is how many goals Jurgen Klopp’s side can score, and whether Maribor can come up with a strike of their own to give their travelling support something to shout about.
On the back of that thumping win in Slovenia, Liverpool went and took a pasting of their own as Tottenham dismantled them at Wembley. The Reds bounced back with a comfortable win over Huddersfield on Saturday, and this one should be another confidence booster for Klopp’s men. Expect a game of attack versus defence as Liverpool’s forwards all try to boost their season’s stats.
After that demolition against Liverpool in their last Champions League outing, Maribor have recorded two successive 1-0 victories back in the Slovenian top flight. Jasmin Mesanovic was the match winner on both occasions, and the Bosnian forward will do what he can to pose a threat to what remains a shaky Liverpool backline.
There’s little room for doubt when it comes to the bookmakers with this game. You’ll do well to get better odds than 1/16 for a Liverpool win, while Maribor are priced at an extraordinary 90/1. If you think the European minnows can claim a shock point, the draw’s available at 25/1.
Liverpool to win to nil at 9/20
This is a good way to improve your odds on a home win, as is betting on Liverpool to win both halves at 4/9.
Mesanovic to score and Maribor to win 1-0 at 1000/1
There’s a reason the odds are so long on this bet, but it’d be some upset if Mesanovic was the match winner for a third straight game for Maribor.
