Liverpool v Sevilla Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 11, 2017
Anfield - Champions League
Champions League football returns to Anfield on Wednesday night, as Liverpool host Sevilla in their opening Group E fixture. After such a disappointing result at the weekend, it’s a great opportunity for Jurgen Klopp’s side to bounce back in style.
This will be just the second time Liverpool have faced Sevilla. The only other game between the two was the 2016 Europa League final. After taking the lead through Daniel Sturridge, it all went downhill for the Merseysiders as they went on to lose 3-1.
Sadio Mane is available for Liverpool after his sending off against Manchester City on Saturday. Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne remain on the sidelines, but wantaway forward Philippe Coutinho could feature after missing the game at the Etihad.
Sevilla coasted to a 3-0 win over Eibar at the weekend, with former Manchester City forward Nolito grabbing the third goal in injury time. He’s likely to start on Wednesday, with another former City winger, Jesus Navas, operating down the opposite flank.
Liverpool v Sevilla Preview and Predictions
Liverpool’s toughest games in Group E will be against Sevilla. The Spanish side secured a third consecutive Europa League title on that night in Basel, showing that they have real European pedigree.
If Liverpool can get off to a good start in their opening game, it’d really set them up to challenge for top spot in the group. It’s important to banish the memory of the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of City, and there’s no better way to do so than on a European night under the Anfield lights. The weekend’s performance was mitigated by the dismissal of Mane, helping the Reds to start as favourites for this one. The bookmakers have them at 5/7 in the betting.
Sevilla are unbeaten in five so far this season, which includes their Champions League playoff against Istanbul Buyuksehir. This is the La Liga side’s hardest game of the group on paper, but the price of 4/1 being offered by some bookmakers looks very tempting. If you think the two strongest teams in Group E will cancel each other out, the draw’s available at 13/4.
Liverpool to win to nil at 27/11
Much of Sevilla’s attacking threat will come from players that struggled in the Premier League. A decent way to improve your odds on a home win is by predicting Liverpool will keep a clean sheet.
Coutinho to score in 1-0 Liverpool win at 70/1
This game’s likely to be a tight one, and could be decided by someone coming off the bench. What a story it’d be if Coutinho turned out to be the match winner.
