Liverpool v Southampton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
November 16, 2017
Anfield - Premier League
Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield this weekend, with Jurgen Klopp's side looking to extended their unbeaten Premier League run to three games.
In the 2016-17 Premier League season, both games between these two sides ended in 0-0 draws, however the Saints did manage to do the double over the Reds in the EFL Cup - winning 1-0 at the St.Mary's Stadium and at Anfield.
Liverpool have a number of injuries to deal with ahead of the visit of Southampton, with Jurgen Klopp set to be without some key players for Saturday's game.
Sadio Mane has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, and skipper Jordan Henderson is still sidelined with a thigh problem.
Defender Nathaniel Clyne has undergone back surgery and will be out until the new year, but Adam Lallana is back in training and could be named as a substitute against his former club.
Mario Lemina has returned to training for Mauricio Pellegrino's side following an ankle injury, and he should start in midfield. Defender Jeremy Pied is still out of action with a knee injury.
Liverpool v Southampton Preview and Predictions
Liverpool are beginning to put together some consistency in recent weeks, with the 4-0 defeat at Tottenham the only defeat that Klopp's side have suffered in their last nine games across all competitions.
In contrast to Liverpool's impressive recent form, Southampton have won just in their last six Premier League games, with damaging defeats to Manchester United, Stoke City and Burnley along the way.
Liverpool look set to continue their progress in the first half of the season with a win on Saturday - and a home victory is priced at 4/9.
Klopp's team have also been in excellent goal scoring form of late, netting an impressive 11 goals in their last four games in all competitions, and conceded just two.
Whereas Southampton have only managed four times in their last four Premier League games, and conceding four along the way.
With this in mind Southampton could find Liverpool's in-form attackers too much to handle on Saturday, even in the absence of Saido Mane, Klopp still has Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho at his disposal.
An over 2.5 goals looks to be a strong option for this game, currently priced at 11/10.
Liverpool to win 3-1 at 12/1
With the benefit of the home support and an ever improving run of recent form, Liverpool look clear favourites to win relatively comfortably on Saturday. With the weapons at their disposal up front, up against a Southampton defence that is far from watertight, Liverpool should be fine.
Mo Salah to score first at 7/2
Egyptian international Salah has been the main man for Liverpool in the last month, scoring six goals in his last five games in all competitions and his pace and eye for goal will be a real problem for a Southampton defence that has not kept a clean sheet since September.
