Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 02, 2018
Anfield - Premier League
We could be in for a cracker on Sunday, as Liverpool welcome Tottenham to Anfield for this mouthwatering Premier League fixture. Two of the division’s most exciting attacks will meet, but this game could be decided by the defence which performs best.
Harry Kane scored a brace as Spurs swatted the Reds aside at Wembley earlier this season, with the game ending 4-1 to the hosts. Liverpool had gone 10 unbeaten against Tottenham before that, winning seven of those encounters - four of them without conceding.
Jurgen Klopp will surely bring record signing Virgil van Dijk back into the side for this one, after the Dutch defender was dropped to the bench for the midweek win at Huddersfield. Both Adam Lallana and Ragnar Klavan have a slight chance of making this game after injury, but neither’s likely to start.
Tottenham meanwhile have three players who are set to miss out, with Serge Aurier and Harry Winks suffering from respective calf and ankle problems. Toby Alderweireld is nearing full fitness after pulling his hamstring at the start of November, but this one could come just too soon for the Belgian international.
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur Preview and Predictions
With some of the Premier League’s sharpest shooters on show, we can surely expect to see plenty of attacking football on Sunday. Tottenham are now just two points off the top four places, and can overtake third placed Liverpool with victory at Anfield.
This is a great chance for the Reds to really make a statement on their Champions League ambitions for next season though. A win would give them a five point buffer, with just 12 games remaining. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have been in exceptional goalscoring form of late, with both forwards getting on the scoresheet in each of Liverpool’s last two games.
The hosts start the game as 28/25 favourites in the betting, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side priced at 13/5. Spurs recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday, and they should be full of confidence. Their own star turn Kane didn’t score in the week, but has 30 goals in total this term, which is four more than Salah.
The last three games between these two have ended in home wins, but there were three consecutive draws before that. This one is 37/13 to end in a stalemate, with the bookmakers predicting a 1-1 scoreline to be the most likely result at 7/1. Both sides kept clean sheets in midweek, with Liverpool priced at 45/17 and Spurs at 9/2 to do the same in this game.
Salah to score and Liverpool to win at 4/1
The Egyptian can’t stop scoring this season, and he usually finds the back of the net when Liverpool win. Kane is the same price to score in a victory for Spurs.
Liverpool to win to nil at 18/5
This bet would’ve paid out in four of the last 10 meetings between these two. It’s 13/5 if you think both teams will score but the Reds will still take all three points.
