Liverpool v West Brom Betting Tips, Predictions and Previews
December 11, 2017
Anfield – Premier League
Liverpool host West Brom, looking to bounce back after a disappointing draw in the Merseyside derby following Wayne Rooney's late penalty equaliser. The Baggies haven’t won since August, and this isn’t likely to chance on Wednesday.
The last time that Liverpool lost to West Brom was in 2013, and featured a goal from Romelu Lukaku. However, since then, Liverpool have averaged a win and a draw per season against their opponents this Wednesday. The most recent, a narrow 1-0 victory, was won thanks to a goal from Roberto Firmino.
Back injuries have both Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ward out for the long term, whilst a cruciate ligament rupture to Adam Bogdan suffered in October ensures the ‘keeper wont be back for a while. The minor injury that kept Alberto Moreno out of the Merseyside derby may keep the fullback out of contention, with Klopp having to decide between Andrew Robertson or James Milner at left-back.
Alan Pardew has a number of long term absentees nearing returns, although Wednesday’s match will come too early for James Morrison, Craig Dawson and record signing, Nacer Chadli.
Liverpool V West Brom Preview and Predictions
Liverpool’s draw to Everton came as a surprise, given the Red’s 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow just four days before. Although Klopp blamed the referee for giving a soft penalty for the Toffees' equaliser, it was his decision to leave out Roberto Firmino and Philipe Coutinho, that saw much of the blame rest on the manager.
Despite the poor result, Mo Salah kept up his fine goalscoring form, and he is currently 11/4 to open the scoring against the Baggies. Fortunately for Liverpool, their rivals Chelsea and Arsenal all failed to pick up three points at the weekend, so no more than their pride suffered at the weekend, but they will be desperate to get back to winning ways.
West Brom also suffered a disappointing result in the last round, with a defeat to Swansea. In their past three games, the Baggies have picked up just two points, playing against fellow relegation contenders from the bottom five. New manager, Alan Pardew, seems not to have the impact that the owners had hoped.
Having scored just 12 goals so far in the campaign, it comes as no surprise that the odds for yet another loss are so low at 1/5. If the Baggies are to have any hope, they would need the likes of Salamon Rondon or Hal Robson Kanu, both of whom are 3/1 to score anytime, to attack what is unquestionably a shaky Liverpool defence.
Only the Manchester teams have managed to keep Liverpool from scoring this season in the Premier League, however, they can be outscored. Unfortunately for Pardew, this does not play to his team’s strengths.
Mo Salah to score anytime at 3/4
Salah has been unstoppable and is top scorer in the league.
Liverpool to score 4 or more goals at 9/4
Klopp rested Firmino and Countinho at the weekend and the two will be ready to get at West Brom.
