Liverpool v West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 08, 2018
Anfield - Premier League
Liverpool host West Ham on the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season, with Manuel Pellegrini the new man in the opposing dugout.
Liverpool beat The Hammers 4-1 home and away last season, as Jurgen Klopp's side finished third in the Premier League table.
Of the eight goals that Liverpool scored in those two games, Mo Salah netted three of them.
Liverpool are set to start all of their big money summer signings against West Ham, with Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keita all set for their competitive debuts for the club.
Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren are still working their way back to full fitness following the World Cup, while James Milner, Adam Lallana and Marko Grujic are all injury doubts.
Pellegrini will be without a number of first team players for their first match of the season, with Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio all sidelined through injury.
Summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko is also a doubt with a hip problem, but fellow new man Jack Wilshere should start.
Liverpool v West Ham Preview and Predictions
Liverpool have spent big over the summer as they look to build on last season's progress, and the additions will place further pressure on them to win a major trophy by the end of the season.
Salah will also be scrutinized as he looks to follow up a Golden Boot winning season in his second campaign with the club, and he will be even more of a marked man this season.
The Hammers have recruited shrewdly, bringing in Wilshere and Yarmolenko, alongside Felipe Anderson from Lazio. However they does still look short in the goal scoring department, with Javier Hernandez their only recognised fully fit striker ahead of the season start.
Liverpool will want to make a statement in front of their own fans, and Klopp will want to ensure they start the season at the pace that will be needed to keep up with Manchester City - and a home win is at 1/4 here.
Liverpool have scored 24 goals in eight pre season games, and they will look to attack this game from the start, with Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all set to start.
West Ham have scored 12 in their seven warm up games, so goals are an almost guarantee in this game, with an over 3.5 goals bet priced at 11/8.
Liverpool to win 3-1 at 11/1
Klopp's side have scored goals throughout the 2017-18 season and again in preparation for this campaign, and tactically very little is expected to change in their approach. West Ham have improved, but are likely to have to wait until they collect their first points of the season.
Mo Salah to score first at 12/5
The Egyptian scored twice in his last three pre season appearances, following an extended post-World Cup break, and he looks mach sharp already. He was a thorn in the side for West Ham last season and he looks in the mood to do the same again this weekend.
