Manchester City v Burnley Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 16, 2018
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Burnley face arguably the toughest challenge in English football right now, as they travel to the Etihad to take on champions Manchester City. The Blues dropped points in their last Premier League game before the international break, but they have a 100% record so far at home.
Burnley took four points from City in their first season back in the top flight in 2014/15. City won four in a row after that, but their streak ended with a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in February of this year. City were comfortable 3-0 winners in this fixture last season, and also won 4-1 at the Etihad in the FA Cup.
Fabian Delph and Ilkay Gundogan are both rated as 50-50 for this game, with both players missing out on international duty over the last week. Kevin De Bruyne could also make a return to Pep Guardiola’s starting XI after overcoming a knee injury quicker than expected.
Robbie Brady’s thigh injury is not healing as quickly as anticipated, and the forward is a doubt for this game once again. Ben Gibson could also miss out, along with James Tarkowski, who was forced to pull out of the England squad because of a groin issue.
Manchester City v Burnley Preview and Predictions
Getting any sort of result is going to be a tough ask for Burnley, with Manchester City unbeaten so far this season and top of the league on goal difference. The Blues are usually imperious at home, but will the international break have any effect on their performance?
The intensity their manager brings to every training session suggests that it won’t. Guardiola will be glad to get his players back without any major injury concerns, and he’ll expect them to get back to winning ways after a goalless draw at Anfield.
The City manager tweaked his tactics to deal with Liverpool’s attacking threat, but it will be back to plan A on Saturday. The Blues are 1/10 favourites for the win, so you'll need to get more creative with your bets to get some value out of the home win. A correct score of 3-0 to the hosts could be attractive at 57/10.
Burnley are 33/1 to get the victory, so the bookmakers aren’t giving them much chance here. The Clarets have taken seven points from their last three games after failing to win any of their first five though. A draw would keep their unbeaten run going, and is priced at 12/1.
City to win to nil at 6/10
Burnley scored four against Bournemouth last month, but have only managed six in their seven other matches this term.
Raheem Sterling to score first at 4/1
The winger scored twice for England against Spain this week and should be full of confidence coming into this game.
