Manchester City v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 02, 2018
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Champions-elect Manchester City host defending Premier League champions Chelsea this weekend, in a mouthwatering heavyweight clash.
Manchester City beat Chelsea back in September in the early stages of this season, with former Chelsea player Kevin De Bruyne the hero in a 1-0 win. During the title win in 2016-17, Chelsea beat City home and away in the Premier League, with Eden Hazard scoring in both games.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has injury issues in midfield, with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley both unlikely to be fit in time for this game. The Italian is set to play a midfield of N'Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Danny Drinkwater in their absence. Defender David Luiz also remains sidelined through injury for the visitors.
Raheem Sterling faces a race to be fit in time to play for City in this game, as he struggles with a hamstring problem. The hosts are also set to be without key pair Fernandinho and Kyle Walker, meaning starts for Alexander Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundgan, if they are unfit.
Manchester City v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
City welcome Chelsea to the north west following an excellent week of results, even by their own high standards this season. Pep Guardiola's side comfortably disposed of Arsenal twice in the space of four days, with successive 3-0 wins in the EFL Cup final and at the Emirates in the Premier League.
Chelsea's last outing was a 2-1 defeat at Manchester United, in an interesting fixture pairing by the Premier League, and that loss looks to have really damaged confidence for Conte's side.
Given City's form and ruthless displays against Arsenal, they look to continue their relentless march towards the title, and despite key injuries in the squad, Chelsea do not look to be in a position to capitalise and a home win is priced at 8/13.
Goals have been a feature of both sides' play all season, and City have scored 15 times in their last five games in all competitions, with Chelsea netting 10 goals in the same run of fixtures. With that in mind, an over 2.5 goals bet is 4/6.
Manchester City to win 3-1 at 12/1
City have not lost at home all season, and their runaway title challenge shows no sign of slowing down as the season enters its final stretch. While Chelsea are not on top form, and with Conte's days at the club seeming numbered, they will put up a fight, but City look too strong.
Sergio Aguero to score anytime at 5/6
Aguero is City's leading scorer this season with 21 Premier League goals so far. He scored in the EFL Cup final against Arsenal and he has six goals in his last five appearances in all competitions.
