Manchester City v Crystal Palace Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 19, 2017
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
The unstoppable force meets the very moveable object in the Premier League on Saturday, as Manchester City host Crystal Palace at the Etihad. Despite the Eagles’ appointment of Roy Hodgson, it’s hard to see anything other than a comfortable victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.
As if current form weren’t bad enough for the visitors, City have won 13 of their last 14 games against Palace. In the last six meetings between the teams, the Blues have found the net 20 times with just two in reply. Last season’s game at the Etihad was a thumping 5-0 win for the hosts.
After picking up a calf injury on international duty with Belgium, there were fears that Vincent Kompany could be out for a month. However the City captain has returned to training and should be available for Wednesday’s League Cup game at West Brom. There are no other injury issues for Guardiola, who’ll surely partner Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in attack once again.
The big news for Palace is that after a horrific car crash and a year on the sidelines, Pape Souare has recovered from his injuries to make a first team comeback. There’s another boost on the way in the form of Wilfried Zaha, who’s close to a return after injuring his knee on the opening day of the season against Huddersfield.
Manchester City v Crystal Palace Preview and Predictions
While Roy Hodgson’s return to the dugout last weekend was hardly much fun for the former England boss, things could get a lot more painful on Saturday afternoon. Manchester City have been in scintillating form of late, and it’s no surprise that they’re huge favourites in the betting.
City have really sparked into life in their last three games, bagging 15 goals against Liverpool, Feyenoord and Watford. With Aguero and Jesus happily sharing goals around and Kevin de Bruyne looking like one of the very best players in the Premier League, the Citizens are going to take some stopping this season.
The visitors meanwhile haven’t even registered a single goal yet, never mind a point. After sacking Frank de Boer, it’s going to take some time for Hodgson to get his team playing how he wants them to. However the lack of hard work in their defeat at home against Southampton on Saturday would’ve been worrying for the new boss.
Palace start this game as massive underdogs, and they’re available as long as 25/1 with some bookmakers. City are priced at 1/6, so you’ll need to be a bit more creative with your bets to get some value out of a home win. If you think the visitors can snatch a point, it’s 9/1.
Manchester City to win to nil at 23/25
Improve your odds on a City win by predicting that Palace will fail to score yet again.
City to win 5-0 at 16/1
Back the hosts to repeat last season’s result with another resounding victory. The odds are relatively short for such a big winning margin, so predict Aguero to get the first goal for a price of 33/1.
