Manchester City v Huddersfield Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 15, 2018
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Everything looks good for Manchester City as they bid to retain their Premier League crown, with Huddersfield the first visitors of the season to the Etihad. It’s virtually impossible to see anything but a comfortable home win in this game.
City were 2-1 winners at the John Smith’s Stadium last season, but Huddersfield claimed a point at the Etihad just before the end of the season. The teams played out a goalless draw in the FA Cup in 2017, but City smashed the Terriers for five on home soil in the replay, despite going behind early on.
Gabriel Jesus could be set for his first appearance of the season, but David Silva may miss out again with a knock. His namesake Bernardo performed well against Arsenal though, and he’ll slip seamlessly into the line-up once again if the Spanish Silva is unavailable. Philippe Sandler, Danilo and Eliaquim Mangala are all injured.
Juninho Bacuna could make his debut for the visitors after missing their opening game of the campaign, while fellow new boy Adama Diakhaby is pushing for a start after coming off the bench against Chelsea. Danny Williams and Erik Durm are both injured, while Isaac Mbenza’s lacking match fitness.
Manchester City v Huddersfield Preview and Predictions
Pep Guardiola has said that he wants Manchester City to win the Premier League with even more points than last season’s record-breaking haul. The early signs would suggest that the Blues are capable of doing just that, and this could be a long afternoon for Huddersfield.
City barely had to get out of second gear against both Chelsea and Arsenal, who they’ve beaten 2-0 over the past couple of weekends. Huddersfield don’t have anything like the quality of those top six sides, and the Blues could tame the Terriers with a fair few goals on Sunday.
The home side are priced at 1/10 in the betting, while Huddersfield are available at a massive 40/1. That tells you all you need to know about how this game’s expected to pan out, with almost no hope for the visitors.
Huddersfield were outclassed by Chelsea in their season opener, with that 3-0 loss hardly good preparation for a trip to the champions. The Terriers did fight their way to a point in this fixture last term though, with the draw priced at 25/2. With that said, it still looks like throwing your money away considering City’s supremacy.
City to win to nil at 1/2
This bet gives you the chance to double the value on offer for the home win compared to the outright market.
City to win 5-0 at 10/1
The Citizens put five past Huddersfield at home in 2017, and it’s not hard to see them doing the same again.
