Manchester City v Leicester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
May 02, 2019
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Manchester City could have the chance to wrap up the Premier League title as they welcome Leicester City to the Etihad on Monday night. If Liverpool fail to beat Newcastle United on Saturday, any sort of win will all but guarantee City the successful defence of their crown.
Leicester came back from a goal down to beat City 2-1 when the teams met in this season’s first fixture. City won three in a row in the league against the Foxes before that, including a 5-1 annihilation at the Etihad last season, and have also dumped Leicester out of the League Cup twice on penalties in each of the last two campaigns.
Pep Guardiola will be without Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne for this game. Those two players have been excellent recently, so it’s a major blow for City. Less of a concern is reserve goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s continued absence through an Achilles injury.
Daniel Amartey is the only player injured or suspended for the away team ahead of this tough assignment. The Ghanaian hasn’t played since October due to a broken ankle, although he could make his return on the final day of the season next weekend.
Manchester City v Leicester City Preview and Predictions
Although City enjoy the privilege of playing second in the penultimate round of Premier League fixtures, that won’t change the task in hand for the Blues. They’ll be going all out for the win, whether it’s to secure the title or reclaim top spot from Liverpool ahead of the last day of the campaign.
Incredibly, City could require 98 points to become the first team to defend the title since Manchester United managed to do so a decade ago. The Blues may have lost three more matches than Liverpool, but 30 wins from 36 is an incredible way to back up last season’s century of points.
Guardiola’s side have won their last 12 matches in the Premier League, which has seen them reel Liverpool in and overtake their Merseyside rivals. They may have lost at Leicester during their Christmas wobble, but the Citizens have been professional and ruthless in almost every game since then.
The hosts are the heavy favourites to get the win they need, priced at 1/6 in the betting. Leicester are 20/1 as they look to continue their fine form under Brendan Rodgers. The Foxes have won five of their last seven under their new manager, playing some exciting stuff along the way. If you think that will help the visitors claim a point on Monday, the draw’s available at 17/2.
Man City to win and under 2.5 goals at 4/1
Five of City’s last six games have seen under 2.5 goals, including their nervy win at Burnley last weekend, and this one could go down a similar route.
Sergio Aguero to score first at 3/1
The Argentinian forward bagged four goals in this fixture last season, and his next strike will take him to 30 goals in this campaign.
