Manchester City v Napoli Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 16, 2017
Etihad Stadium - Champions League
It’s time to see whether a team from foreign shores can halt the Manchester City express train, as Napoli visit the Etihad on Tuesday evening. The Serie A leaders have been untouchable domestically so far this season, but City have been blowing away all comers of late.
The two teams faced each other in the group stages of the Champions League six years ago. The first game at the Etihad ended in a 1-1 draw, while Napoli emerged as 2-1 winners in the return fixture. Edinson Cavani scored all three of the Gli Azzurri’s goals, and with Mario Balotelli on target for City this match will be a whole new ball game.
After making the bench at the weekend following a broken rib in an Amsterdam car crash, Sergio Aguero could feature for the hosts. He wasn’t needed as Stoke were summarily dispatched on Saturday, but this game will surely be a lot tighter. Vincent Kompany misses out with a calf problem, while Benjamin Mendy’s a long term absentee.
Napoli will be without Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik, after the promising 23-year-old had a knee operation at the end of September. He’s expected to be out for around four months after losing a similar portion of last season to another knee injury. Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will make his 160th European appearance when he starts between the sticks.
Manchester City v Napoli Preview and Predictions
We could be in for a barnstorming encounter at the Etihad, as two in-form teams lock horns in Group F. Both sides are unbeaten in their domestic leagues so far, and after eight games Manchester City have scored 29 goals and Napoli 26.
City are in a great position in their Champions League group, and a third win in three on Tuesday would all but secure their spot in the knockout rounds. Expect the Blues to be as attacking as ever, as Pep Guardiola’s side continue to develop in the image of their boss. This Napoli defence will be tougher to break down than some of their Premier League opponents so far, but there are few teams that can live with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Gabriel Jesus and the rest when they’re on top form.
The visitors come into this game on the back of their own impressive goalscoring exploits, with Dries Mertens leading the way in the goals chart but ably supported by Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne. At the weekend a single Insigne strike was enough to secure an away win at Roma, with Maurizio Sarri’s side showing they can perform against tough opposition on the road.
City start this one as favourites in the betting though, and are priced at 8/13. Napoli are available at 24/5, while it’s 15/4 if you think the game will end in a draw.
City to win both halves at 31/10
Bet on City to continue their impressive form as they comfortably dispatch Napoli by winning both halves of the game.
Napoli to win 1-0 at 28/1
Or back the visitors to spring a surprise as they shut down City’s attack and repeat the scoreline they got at Roma on Saturday.
