Manchester City v Stoke City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
October 10, 2017
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Premier League leaders Manchester City host Stoke City on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola's side looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
Manchester City have a good record against Mark Hughes' side in recent meetings, unbeaten in the last three match ups, including two victories. Stoke did pick up at goal less draw at the Etihad Stadium last season, but they have only scored once in their last four games against Manchester City.
The Potters last victory against City came back in December 2015, via a 2-0 win through two goals from Marko Arnautovic.
Manchester City will be without a number of first team players for the visit of Stoke City, and Guardiola has a selection dilemma in attack this weekend.
Sergio Aguero missed the 1-0 win against Chelsea, and his broken ribs will keep him out of the weekend game, and Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane could start in a more central area.
Utility man Fabian Delph is out with a hamstring injury, which forced him off against Chelsea, Danilo replaced him in that game and the Brazilian international should continue to deputise.
Regular left back Bernard Mendy is out until 2017 following knee surgery, but captain Vincent Kompany has returned to first team training following a calf strain, however he could be short of match fitness.
Stoke boss Hughes will have to make a big call over his defence, with two players back in first team training and pushing for a first team return. Ryan Shawcross and Bruno Martins Indi are back following back and groin injuries respectively, following long lay offs this season, but Hughes may not risk them this weekend.
If the pair are unable to play then summer signings Kurt Zouma and Kevin Wimmer will continue to play as a central defensive partnership.
Manchester City v Stoke City Preview and Predictions
Guardiola's City side have been in impressive form this season, unbeaten so far in all competitions, with five consecutive wins in the Premier League. The weekend win over Chelsea was the first major test of City's title credentials and they were in fine form against Antonio Conte's team, and that should allow them to have too much for Stoke on Saturday.
In front of their home fans, Guardiola will be hoping that his side can continue their excellent form in 2017-18, and a routine home is priced as 1/7.
Goals have been flowing for Manchester City so far this season, netting an impressive 12 goals in their last three Premier League games against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Watford.
Alongside this, Stoke have had a very poor record in defence this season, keeping just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season - against Arsenal back in August. Hughes' side recorded their first win in five Premier League against Southampton last weekend, but they will be exposed at the back on Saturday and an over 2.5 goals bet is priced at 3/10
Manchester City to win 3-0 at 7/1
Free flowing Manchester City have caused real problems against every team they have faced this season, and the likes of Sane, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and David Silva have all been excellent so far. The pace and goal threat of all of these players will be a real concern for Stoke and they are unlikely to have the tools to stop them from cruising to a routine win.
Gabriel Jesus to score first at 14/5
In the absence of Aguero, Jesus will take on further responsibility for City this weekend and he is likely to play as a lone front man on Saturday. The Brazilian international has netted four goals in six Premier League games so far this season, and his ability to stretch defences and be a real threat inside the penalty area will be something that Stoke need to be very wary of.
