Manchester City v Watford Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
March 05, 2019
Etihad Stadium - Premier League
Manchester City continue their title defence with a home game against Watford this week, and a renewed spring in their step. The Blues have seen Liverpool stutter in recent weeks, allowing them to take control of the title race.
City have won each of the last nine meetings between the sides, including a 2-1 success at Vicarage Road back in December. Last season’s corresponding fixture finished 3-1 to the Blues, who beat Watford 6-0 and 5-0 in their two meetings before that.
Kevin De Bruyne picked up yet another injury last weekend, and he’s set for another spell on the sidelines. He joins a couple of this season’s standout performers, Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte, on the treatment table, as well as John Stones. Fabian Delph is back in training though and ready to return.
This is a daunting game for visiting manager Javi Gracia. Fortunately, the Hornets boss only has one player who’s a fitness doubt. Kiko Femenia has been recovering from illness, but is expected to be available. Apart from that, the away team have a clean bill of health.
Manchester City v Watford Preview and Predictions
As if this trip to the Etihad wasn’t difficult enough for Watford, the Hornets also need to block out the memory of last week’s humbling at Anfield. Although they’ve been a little more reserved in recent weeks when it comes to hitting the back of the net, City will smell blood in this Saturday evening kick-off.
The Blues have a fabulous record against their visitors this weekend, and are looking to make it 10 wins on the bounce against Watford. They may have only won their last two games 1-0, but City are hitting top form at exactly the right time. They’ve won 16 of their last 17 fixtures, if you include the penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.
With some big wins against the Hornets in recent seasons, City are huge favourites to get another three points. They are 1/7 for the win, while Watford are out at 20/1. Even at those odds though, it doesn’t look good for the away team.
The Hornets took a 5-0 pasting at Liverpool last week, although they did recover to get a dramatic late win against Leicester on Saturday. Even so, Watford would surely be happy to escape this game without another heavy and demoralising defeat. A draw would be a real bonus, and the visitors are 8/1 to get one.
City to win to nil at 20/21
City have been excellent at the back recently, and are looking for their fourth successive clean sheet this weekend.
City to win and over 4.5 goals at 2/1
The Blues have recorded some big wins over Watford in recent meetings between the sides, and they could run away with it again.
