Manchester United v Arsenal Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 26, 2019
Old Trafford - Premier League
Monday night football is back with an enticing encounter this week, as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford. It’s not the top-of-the-table clash of yesteryear, but there could be fireworks nonetheless.
Arsenal won 2-0 at the Emirates the last time the teams met in March, around six weeks after United knocked the Gunners out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win at the same ground. Last season’s league game at Old Trafford finished 2-2, while United recorded back-to-back victories over Arsenal before that.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been plunged into a striking crisis after Marcus Rashford picked up a groin injury in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham. Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood could both be in contention this weekend though, along with Paul Pogba, who made his return from an ankle injury in the League Cup on Wednesday. Luke Shaw is also available after injury.
Alexandre Lacazette is going to be a big miss for the visitors, with the French striker out until late October with an ankle injury. Hector Bellerin made his long-awaited return in midweek though, while Kieran Tierney is also finally in contention to make his Premier League bow for the Gunners. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is available after suspension, while Konstantinos Mavropanos and Emile Smith Rowe are rated as 50/50.
Manchester United v Arsenal Preview and Predictions
It seems that Manchester United are constantly lurching from one crisis to another these days, and their injury woes up front have highlighted their lack of reinforcements in the final third after allowing Romelu Lukaku to leave in the summer. Arsenal meanwhile have reinforcements coming back from injury and are looking to strike another blow to their hosts’ early season troubles.
The Gunners put on a late show to thrash Nottingham Forest 5-0 in the League Cup on Tuesday night, taking them to three successive victories in all competitions. They went three without a win in the Premier League before that, so this is a welcome return to form for Unai Emery’s side.
United meanwhile needed penalties to see off the challenge of League One Rochdale at Old Trafford on Wednesday, having put in a dreadful performance in their defeat at West Ham last weekend. Arsenal aren’t known for their away form, but United are in poor shape at the moment and could be staring at another disappointing result here.
With that in mind, the away team could prove to be solid value at 43/20. If you think United can put their troubles behind them for one night at least, then they’re available at 11/8, while the draw on Monday is priced at 27/10.
Arsenal to win and both teams to score at 4/1
The last five meetings between these two teams have produced 17 goals at an average of 3.4 per game, with both teams scoring on four occasions, so this bet could prove to be excellent value. A 2-1 away win is priced at 12/1.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score first at 9/2
The Gabon striker has scored on his last two appearances against United, and he is 32/1 to open the scoring in a 2-1 Arsenal victory.
