Manchester United v Crystal Palace Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
September 28, 2017
Old Trafford - Premier League
Only a draw at Stoke blots Manchester United’s 100% record while Crystal Palace have a 100% record of failure with no points and no goals being any club’s worst ever top-flight start. Palace have not beaten Manchester United in the league since 1989 and if they win this weekend it would be a massive shock.
Manchester United have not lost to Crystal Palace since 1989 with the Eagles managing a mere three draws from 16 games in the last 25 years. United have won the last four Premier League encounters at Old Trafford without conceding although Palace won a League Cup tie in 2011-12.
Goal-shy Palace have lost their main attacking threat, Christian Benteke who will be out for six weeks with ligament damage. Bakery Sako is expected to deputise.
Mourinho may give starts to Anthony Martial and Ander Herrera as he will know that pace is something Palace struggle to handle. Following United’s midweek trip to Moscow it is almost certain that several changes will be made to freshen them up. Ashley Young skippered the side against CSKA but could be likely to miss out. Injuries rule out Paul Pogba and probably Michael Carrick but Daley Blind is likely to return.
Manchester United v Crystal Palace Preview and Predictions
Joint top of the table Manchester United are 3/16 with rock bottom Crystal Palace 22/1. The odds on a draw are 71/10.
This is one of the most one-sided games of the season. United have won eight of their last nine games, scoring four goals on five occasions including in three of their last four matches. Having already changed manager Palace on the other hand have lost every league game, haven’t even scored and lost 5-0 in Manchester last weekend, at City.
While there is always the possibility of a shock result and just maybe a re-organised and Roy-rejuvenated Palace might take advantage of any post Moscow trip tiredness or complacency in the United ranks the chances of that are slim indeed, especially with Mourinho in charge of the home side.
With the odds so strongly in favour of United finding value with your bets may mean going for normally unlikely score-lines but with big rewards if they come up. However there are attractive odds for United maintaining their liking for four-goal hauls with the home side 19/2 to win 4-0 and 18/1 for 4-1.
18/1 is offered for United to match Man City’s score of 5-0 v Palace but why not have a bet on United destroying Palace but The Eagles finally landing a goal? Taking a bet on 7-1 brings odds of 200/1.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan to open the scoring at 5/1
Mkhitaryan has scored in two of his last three games and preys on fragile defences such as that of Palace.
Romelu Lukaku to score first at 9/4
Good odds for a man who has scored in 10 out of 11 games this season for club and country with a total of 14 goals.
