Manchester United v Huddersfield Town Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
February 01, 2018
Old Trafford - Premier League
Manchester United host Huddersfield at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, after the Red Devils suffered another setback at Wembley in midweek. Jose Mourinho’s side will be out to avenge their defeat against Huddersfield earlier in the season, with their pride hurting once more.
The Terriers’ stunning victory over United back in October was the first time the teams had played each other in 45 years. Goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre put the Premier League newcomers into the lead, with Marcus Rashford’s late goal proving to be a mere consolation for the visitors.
New signing Alexis Sanchez is in line to make his Old Trafford bow, with another interesting team sheet on the cards as Mourinho decides between his attacking options. Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t be among those, while Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini are all out injured too.
David Wagner should have Daniel Williams available after a dead leg, although he’s likely to be without a trio of players for this tough assignment. Elias Kachunga and Jon Stankovic are definitely out, while Scott Malone is rated as 50/50 after picking up a knock.
Manchester United v Huddersfield Town Preview and Predictions
In times gone by, you would’ve feared for Huddersfield as they make the trip along the M62 to face Manchester United at Old Trafford. Not only did they have the temerity to beat the Manchester giants earlier in the season, but United used to be so good at bouncing back after disappointing results. Not so much anymore, and the Terriers are likely to have a go at the weekend.
The defeat against Tottenham was a major disappointment for United, wiping out the buzz around the club after the sensational swoop for Sanchez. They need to produce a much-improved performance after the insipid showing at Wembley, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku all needing to prove their worth to the team alongside the new No.7.
The hosts start as heavy favourites in the betting at 2/11, so you’ll need to be creative with your bets to get some value out of the home win. Huddersfield are 22/1 to record what would be an incredible double over their more illustrious rivals, in what would be a magnificent way to recover from the 3-0 loss against Liverpool in midweek. A draw wouldn’t do them any harm in the relegation dogfight though, and this is priced at 15/2.
Sanchez to score and United to win at evens
All eyes will be on the Chilean, with supporters expecting an instant return from the highest paid player in the Premier League.
United to win to nil at 4/7
This could be another good way to eek some value out of the home win, with Huddersfield finding the back of the net just 19 times in their 24 fixtures so far this term.
